Self Directed Support Forum East Renfrewshire is your very own local organisation for anyone who is thinking about directing their own support or that of someone they care for. We also support individuals and families who are already directing an existing social care package. Our organisation was formed in 2011 by a small collective of service users and carers. We have grown into an independent and informed organisation for others to turn to for advice, to share experiences and to feel supported around all aspects of Self-Directed Support (SDS).

SDS Coordinator

Are you good at working with people and have excellent organisational skills? We’ve got a great opportunity for you!

As an SDS Coordinator, your main aim will be to support people to set up and manage their own support arrangements.

You will assist people to become their own employer through providing advice and support on recruitment and managing their Personal Assistants as well as provide payroll and finance advice.

The Self Directed Support (SDS) Forum East Renfrewshire is an independent charity organisation. We support people and their families who are thinking about directing their own support or someone they care for. We also support individuals and families who are already directing an existing social care package. SDS is a way for people to take control of their own support arrangements. The Forum helps people to set up and manage their own support arrangements. This includes information on the different SDS options and advice on how to find the services or options which will meet their needs. We provide a community brokerage service which supports people who want to become their own employer.

The Forum has recently completed a restructure of the service and we are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team.

You must have work experience in the field of Health and Social Care. It is essential that you are familiar with the Self-Directed Support Act 2013 and the Scottish Government Legislation for SDS. You must be willing to learn and understand the local SDS policy and practice and be able to work well with all our partners. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic towards continued development in this area. An SCQF Level 6 or HND in Health & Social Care or equivalent is required.

You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, report writing and IT skills. Experience working with people who have additional needs, including individuals with communication impairments. It is essential that you have experience in representing clients within a multi-agency setting.

Teamwork is at the core of all our service provision and is imperative to the strategic growth of our organisation. We require someone who is flexible and can adapt to any changes in delivery of service. This includes evening work, occasionally, however the core hours of work are throughout Monday to Friday between 8.45am and 4.45pm. Part time hours to be agreed.

Our organisation was formed in 2011 by a small collective of service users and carers. Now with funding from the Scottish Government, we have grown into an informed organisation and a for place for citizens to turn to for advice, share experiences and feel supported around all aspects of Self-Directed Support.

The successful candidate will be required to have a relevant degree or equivalent and it would be desirable to have a management qualification or relevant experience.

The Self-Directed Support (SDS) Forum has been supporting and developing the implementation of Self-Directed Support in East Renfrewshire since 2011. We are an extremely ambitious charitable organisation with national links and strong partnerships with the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) and fellow third sector organisations in our area and wider.

Development Assistant

To assist the SDS Forum by being a key point of contact and support for the team and the organisation, liaising with the team and with our partners, answering queries and researching the demand of our project areas. This is an exciting new role within our organisation and we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and passionate about empowering people to have choice and control over their own life. This role will use the valuable feedback from our stakeholders to inform the organisation and support progress on delivery of service.

First point of contact for all incoming calls for the organisation, sign posting to the wider team as appropriate and to relevant partner organisations as required.

Directly assist the Brokerage Co-ordinator to deliver the Personal Assistant and Employment Support Service and with the SDS Budget Management Service. This will involve administrative duties within this area specifically, record keeping, CV screening and liaising with clients to collect information for their accounts and case file. Full training and guidance will be provided for this.

Distribute relevant information for SDS clients, stakeholders, and the wider community of East Renfrewshire.

Raise awareness of self-directed support - working in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council, local organisations and voluntary groups.

Assist the Development Officer to support the involvement of volunteers and peer support groups.

Personal Assistants

The Self Directed Support Forum would like to invite individuals who have the values, skills and experience to be a Personal Assistant (social care) to those who require support for a wide range of needs. This could be assistance with personal care, social inclusion within their local community, household chores and promoting health and wellbeing. A variety of hours will be available and various types of support requirements. Hourly rates and shift patterns will vary, depending on the individual’s needs.

As a Community Brokerage service, we are acting on behalf of people within the East Renfrewshire area who have a Self-Directed Support (SDS) Budget to manage their own care requirements.

We will review your application and if suitable, we will hold details on our database system. We will then share your details with those individuals we support who are looking to recruit Personal Assistants. If you match with more than one person then you may have the opportunity to increase your hours overall, depending on your availability.
