ReTweed is a pioneering rural social enterprise based in the Scottish Borders. We deliver innovative training and skills development for women and young people through craft, design and technology. In a supportive environment, participants can enjoy learning new skills, build new connections, find new ways to express themselves and increase their self-belief, encouraging them to move forward in their lives, careers and communities.

At our dedicated workshop and retail premises in Eyemouth and in our outreach courses, each student learns a wide range of craft, heritage and thrift skills and produces a range furnishings, fashions and crafts, using textiles diverted from landfill. We sell these products to re-invest in ReTweed, taking us forward as a not-for-profit business supporting women and promoting community good.

ReTweed also runs a volunteering programme 3 days each week, runs a range of commercial workshops throughout the year and has a business incubator hub where women developing their own enterprises or undertaking outsourced manufacturing - design and produce a range of clothes and accessories.

We are seeking an experienced leader who can bring their strategic expertise to the table, while also fostering the development of innovative business models and ensuring operational excellence. ReTweed is a multi-award-winning social enterprise based in Eyemouth. We deliver a range of innovative textiles upcycling programmes where people come together and learn a wide range of techniques and skills in craft design and technology.

We run intensive 12-week training programmes and community-based training for women facing barriers to progressing their lives or careers as well as commercial workshops covering a wide range of upcycling activities and crafts to support our business objectives. ReTweed also run an extensive volunteer programme and has a Business Incubator to assist women in starting and growing creative enterprises.

Our environmental focus is to divert waste textiles from landfill, improve climate literacy and transform culture to embrace the creative potential of reducing, repairing, reusing and recycling as part of everyday life.

Retweed’s Board is made up of a group of elected Trustees who oversee the good governance of the social enterprise.

OUR TRUSTEES RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensure the interests of the students, volunteers and wider communities we work with are prioritised and that we remain committed to our core purposes and objectives
  • Ensure our environmental and enterprise priorities are balanced with our social impact work
  • Contribute to setting our strategic goals and direction and overseeing their implementation
  • Ensure the prudent and responsible operational management of the organisation’s resources
  • Play an active part in sustaining and growing our social enterprise so that we can better achieve our vision and objectives.

We are currently recruiting for up to two new Trustees to serve on our board.

To ensure the board’s effectiveness we are looking to recruit Trustees who bring a diverse range of skills and experience, both personal and professional, to their role. Our current Trustees bring extensive experience from the Third Sector, Law, Education and Employability, Business Management, The Arts and Culture and Community Development.

Our Trustees play a crucial part in setting the strategic direction of ReTweed whilst having an oversight of its operational, regulatory, and financial governance. To ensure our board can play an effective role in supporting and guiding our work we want to promote diversity among our Trustees to ensure representative membership. We believe that people from all backgrounds can bring valuable skills and experience, both personal and professional.
