Gambling Support Practitioner (Scotland)

This is a great time to join GamCare as we are growing the reach of our services. We are looking for a Gambling Support Practitioner with qualifications or experience in health or social care, and an empathic style to enable people to change their behaviour through skilled intervention.

Crucially, you will ensure that psychosocial, and recovery support interventions are delivered as part of a cohesive recovery plan while working collaboratively with external and partner organisations to achieve positive outcomes for service users.

There will be opportunities to participate in service promotion, networking activities and events to support the visibility of the service, as well as developing relationships with local services and communities to strengthen pathways into the service.

We are looking for an individual to work full-time which will currently include 4 days 9-5pm and 1 day 12-8pm per week (fixed), Monday to Friday, however due to possible requirements of the service, occasional Saturdays (9-2pm) may be required, although another day off would be agreed on during the week.

You should have significant experience in individual client work in the field of addictions, mental health or a social care setting with adults or young people. You should be flexible in using a range of low and high-intensity interventions and modalities including Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) tools.

The successful candidate will be expected to be able to work from home thereby having the space for a confidential setting whilst also being able to travel within the region to attend events and offer localised in person support as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing face to face and online advice, assessment, brief and structured interventions to help clients achieve their recovery goals, using motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural approaches
  • Provide safe and effective support to individuals whilst managing safeguarding issues in line with safeguarding procedures and policies
  • Development of collaborative working relationships with external agencies, professionals and groups to facilitate multi agency approach and holistic support
  • Development and maintenance of relationships with local services and communities to support identification of gambling harms and pathways into service
  • Participation in service promotion, networking activities and events to support visibility and ongoing development of the service, and to proactively respond to the needs identified within the region

The Role

GamCare’s Women’s Programme is the UK’s first programme designed specifically to address women’s experience of gambling-related harm. There is a perception that problem gambling is only a male issue. This is not true – gambling-related harms affect women too, and the impact can be particularly severe for some of the most vulnerable in our society. Despite this, women are underrepresented in treatment services and there are few organisations that specialise in supporting women that have robust pathways into gambling-related treatment.

We network with local communities and public sector and third sector organisations that work with women to enhance their knowledge and skills on gambling-related harms that contributes to ensuring women receive the right support at the right time.

About You

As the successful candidate you’ll have the ability to build successful relationships with partner organisations, deliver training, coordinate and facilitate networking opportunities and be a passionate advocate for both the programme and the treatment support services delivered by GamCare.

You’ll bring with you your knowledge of various learning and development tools which will give have given you the tools to deliver presentations and facilitate training products to multiple stakeholders but virtually and in person. The work will not always be easy, as we will be working with partner organisations that have competing priorities and a constant demand on their time. Empathy, enthusiasm and commitment will help you to make sure that this important issue is given the attention it deserves.

Key Responsibilities

Promote, arrange and deliver a range of activities to women-facing professionals (e.g., social worker, support workers) in the region. Activities will include networking events, disseminating information resources, training sessions in gambling related harm, identification and brief advice.

Be a point of contact for people interested in GamCare’s Women’s project in the region and build a network of local interested organisations that work with women and girls in order to share knowledge, support and expertise.

Support learning and knowledge sharing across everyone involved who works with women and girls, to ensure that all support services are enhanced to better meet the needs of service users.

Form part of the delivery team for this programme and attend team meetings on a regular basis, contributing ideas, information, knowledge and feedback coming from and about your region and suggestions for improvements/amendments to content and strategy. This will also include attending two remote Development Days per year (locations vary and may be held in England or Scotland).

GamCare is now looking to recruit a Treatment Practitioner to work with clients across Lanarkshire.

You will be working with problem gamblers and others affected by problem gambling to support them. You will also work with and develop networks with strategic and local partners, including a focus on referral pathways.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Providing face to face and online advice, assessment, brief or structured interventions and group programmes to help clients achieve their recovery goals
  • Providing case management and working within an integrated care pathway

You should have experience in individual client work in the field of addictions, mental health or a social care setting, with adults or young people.

You will form part of our enthusiastic clinical treatment team working from several locations across Scotland. You should be versatile and adaptable and committed to on-going development.

The post is full time, with the majority of working Monday-Friday 0900-1700, with some flexibility required for evening and occasional Saturday working.

This role is office based, however we are open to people working, when the role allows, from home. This role will require travel to other locations including across the areas covered by the service noted above. Working arrangements can be discussed further at the interview stage.

You will need to ensure that you have a confidential space within your home to work from, a home working risk assessment will be carried out by your line manager.

The work will not always be easy, as we will be working with partner organisations that have competing priorities and a constant demand on their time. Passion, enthusiasm and commitment will help to you to make sure that this important issue is given the attention it deserves.

Successful candidates will be confident, self-motivated communicators, have good attention to detail and enjoy persuading and influencing. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external, you will champion the work.
