About the role

To have a key role in the operational delivery and development of the organisation’s key objectives as the Adult Carer Campaigning, Information and Representation Service, commissioned by Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire (HSCNL), working closely with the Manager, the Board of Directors, and key partners.

To lead and manage the delivery of key objectives as agreed with Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire as part of the Community Solutions Programme, in relation to supporting carer engagement and influence across North Lanarkshire and facilitation of the North Lanarkshire Carers’ Support Network.

To contribute to the leadership of NLCT, including line management of staff.

About the role

To work as part of the Carer Information & Engagement Team to deliver an accessible campaigning, information and carer representation service in North Lanarkshire. This will include the development and provision of accessible, quality and comprehensive information to help identify carers and signpost or link them to relevant supports, with a focus on carers from marginalised communities (Ethnic Minority, Rural, LGBTQIA+ etc). The post will also forge active links between carers and professionals to ensure that carers’ voices are heard in the development of local service provision, and work with key partners to deliver local campaigns linked to key themes.

We have contributed to the Carers Journey, to Carers Strategies in North Lanarkshire, to the reshaping care for older people agenda, a consultation resulting in Carers Health Needs Report, and helped implement locally, in our valued spirit of partnership approach - the enactment of carers rights in law within the Carers Scotland Act 2016 – which came into force in 2018.

Throughout this time and alongside this strategic work, we have also ensured that thousands of carers received sound and timely information and advice on their rights and how to access services to meet their needs and have tirelessly campaigned on their behalf and represented carers at various levels within the Local Authority, Health Board and more recently within Health and Social Care.

About the role

Following additional investment from North Lanarkshire Council Education & Families, North Lanarkshire Carers Together are recruiting for the post of Family Support Worker to make up a team of 2 within this service. Reporting to the Development Manager and working across Education, NHSL and the vibrant Community & Voluntary Sector, the Family Support Worker will:

1. Work in close partnership with Education & Families NL and the Neurodevelopmental Team within the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), as a link between children and young people, their carers and a range of community-based services.
2. Provide person-centred, targeted support and interventions to children and young people in need of support and their carers accessing the service.
3. Work with the Community and Voluntary Sector and other partners to link children and families into wider community supports, and provide direct information, advice and support to families including emotional and practical support, psychoeducation and the provision of thematic group work where identified.
4. Have a role in the operational delivery and development of the organisation’s wider objectives as the Adult Carer Campaigning, Information and Representation Service, commissioned by Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire.

Community Solutions is an innovative, community led, health and social care investment and improvement programme for North Lanarkshire which is committed to building community capacity and support to help people live healthier and better lives and North Lanarkshire Carers Together are the thematic lead for carers within its programme of work.

Following additional investment in Community Solutions by Health and Social Care for the benefit of carers, North Lanarkshire Carers Together are recruiting a senior position within the organisation. Reporting to the Development Manager as part of a management team approach, the Carer Network Lead will

1. Lead and manage the delivery of key objectives as agreed with Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire as part of the Community Solutions Programme, in relation to supporting carer engagement and influence across North Lanarkshire and facilitation of the North Lanarkshire Carers’ Support Network.
2. North Lanarkshire Carers Together pledges to improve the lives of carers within North Lanarkshire by actively linking carers and professionals in meaningful working relationships to influence policy development and service provision, which affect carers and the people they care for.

We are the campaigning, information and carer representation organisation for unpaid carers in North Lanarkshire. We work in partnership with Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire and other community and voluntary organisations, to ensure that unpaid carers are informed of their rights and are aware of the range of services that can support them in their caring role. In response to carers’ needs, we are now recruiting an Advocacy Co-ordinator to develop and deliver a new independent advocacy service for adult carers in North Lanarkshire.

If you have proven experience in the field of independent advocacy, have an understanding of the issues facing unpaid carers and would relish the challenge of helping to shape a new service for and with carers, then we are interested in hearing from you.
