Peebles and District Citizens Advice Bureau and Central Borders Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) are local, voluntary advice agencies providing invaluable advice, information and support to the citizens of Peebles and Tweeddale, and the Galashiels area. They are individual, independent charities in their own right, working in partnership and as part of a wider Citizens Advice Network in Scotland and a consortium of CABx in the Scottish Borders.
We believe that every citizen should have access to free, impartial and confidential advice that helps them make informed decisions, whenever they need it and however they choose to access it.
We have an exciting opportunity for either one full time or two part-time, dynamic, highly organised, people.
This role is varied and interesting and provides a great opportunity to support a local organisation that works with some of the most vulnerable people in our community. The role will develop a new project across the Scottish Borders, delivering advice and support to EU citizens at risk of missing the deadline to make an application to remain in the UK post-Brexit, and supporting applications for the EU Settlement Scheme
Based in Peebles or Galashiels, some of your time will be spent in the Bureaux. The role will also require travel across the Scottish Borders, and may include some home visiting with clients. You will also be required to network with other service providers, organisations and forums.
The successful applicant(s) will be expected to build strong working relationships and develop referral networks from within local statutory and voluntary services and across the business community. The post holder will also be expected to develop training and promotional materials to ensure the service is well known across the Scottish Borders.
You will have a good standard of education, high quality personal skills and the desire to improve lives. Knowledge or experience in supporting the most vulnerable in society is advantageous as is previous experience in preparing and delivering training and presentations.
We offer excellent terms and conditions, including a total of 35 days (pro rata) annual leave (including public holidays) and a NEST Government Pension Scheme
Peebles and District Citizens Advice Bureau is currently recruiting for a Financial Health Check Helpline Adviser. The Financial Health Check project aims to improve the accessibility and efficiency of Financial Health Checks for vulnerable families and older people. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of an innovative multi-channel Financial Health Check service within the Citizens Advice Bureaux network in Scotland. The Financial Health Check Helpline Adviser is the first point of contact for clients accessing the service through a dedicated national telephone helpline.
The project delivers an income maximisation service tailored to suit the needs of the client. The helpline adviser will gather information and provide a holistic diagnosis of the client’s needs, helping to support the client to maximise their income and identify whether they are able to self-help. If appropriate, the helpline adviser will then refer on to a specialist adviser or to the client’s local CAB for a face-to-face appointment or to another appropriate agency. On-site support and training will be provided by the Citizens Advice Bureau.
This is initially a fixed term post until 30 September 2019, with possible extension (depending on funding)
