For many vulnerable children and young people who are unable to be satisfactorily supported at home, the only option has often been for them to move into residential care. However, Aberlour has piloted a new ground-breaking edge of care service which provides another option. Working with Angus Council we are now launching a new Aberlour Sustain Service working in Angus. Sustain uses person-centred, asset- based approaches, working with children, young people and families, which enable children and young people to stay at home.

This innovative, creative service focuses on supporting children and young people age 5-11 to remain at home maximising their potential and ability to flourish in their local communities. We also aim to support local professional stakeholders and communities to coproduce solutions. A key part of the service is to offer support to families whenever they need it, whether it be early morning, during the day or the evening, on every day of the year.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and creative individual to lead and manage a small team and to develop this service going forward in order to deliver flexible, person-centred services to vulnerable children and families in a way which can be playful, warm, accepting, curious, tenacious and empathetic.

Applicants should be enthusiastic, energetic and committed and, working in a culture based onrespect, integrity, innovation and the ability to challenge, you will share our vision that collaborative early intervention and engagement is the best option for children and families who are on the ‘edge of care’. Many vulnerable children and young people are unable to be supported sufficiently within their own homes and communities. However, by intervening earlier with person centred approaches we can support children and young people to remain at home rather than moving into residential care.

Aberlour, with support and funding from Angus Council, is establishing Sustain. This is an innovative and creative new service in Angus which focuses on supporting children and young people (age 5 – 11) on the ‘edge of care’ to remain and flourish in their local communities.

Using personalised and person-centred approaches and principles, the aim is to ensure that children, young people and families are supported to build on their strengths, assets and interests to develop enduring capacity and resilience. Our service supports families in the Dumfries and Galloway area who are struggling to cope. The families we work with may have a wide range of issues, which could include drug and alcohol use within the family. You would become the trusted person that they could talk about what they are going through at home whilst undertaking assessments to identify what support we can provide. We are looking to recruit a Community Connector who will lead the planning, delivery and development of this project. You will co-ordinate the planning for all community support- matching the needs of the local community with the resources that are available. You will work in partnership with other organisations within the area to promote change that will lead to better outcomes for families.

You would lead and develop the communities capacity in relation to forming a management committee to oversee the future running & development of the community hub, providing support/developmental skills to the members of the committees in relation to governance , roles responsibilities, structure, appointments within the committee.

2 x Peripatetic Residential Child Care Workers

Aberlour is looking to recruit 2 Peripatetic Residential Child Care Workers to work with our children’s houses in Fife to help with the smooth running of the lives of the children who live with us. Peripatetic Residential Workers allow us to be more responsive to the needs of the houses enabling us to help our houses to fill any gaps that come up, be they during the day to help children attend school or other learning provision, in the evenings enabling the children to undertake specific activities or at night, either to cover night shifts or to help the adults settle children at night. Post holders, therefore, need to be flexible and adaptable and be able to work across all our houses in Fife and be available at short notice to work across the full span of the day across the full week, including weekends.

The successful candidates will be contracted to work 20 hours a week however, there will be opportunities for you to pick up additional hours.

At Options Fife Dunfermline we are looking for an Assistant Service Manager to lead on shift a small skilled team in delivering support to a young man who has recently moved into his forever home. Using a person centre approach you will lead and work with the team to provide support tailored to the challenges and complexities that will enable the young man to take the small meaningful steps in the progression of his on-going transition and within his daily living skills.

The Assistant Service Manager will support the Service Manager in the day to day management of the service and work closely with professionals from health and social work.

What are we looking for?

You will play a fundamental role in ensuring that our young people have the best possible experience whilst working towards goals in their care plans. Whilst not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical, personal and emotional care. We are looking for someone who will contribute to the leadership, management and development of services for children, young people and families in line with planned objectives and assist with service review and evaluation.

You will have relevant experience of working with children and young people with a disability and/or autism in a community or residential setting and understand the impact of disability on social inclusion. You are required to meet the qualifications requirement for this post which is at SCQF Level 8 (eg. HNC, SVQ Level 4). This post requires you to register with the Scottish Social Services Council as a Residential Child Care Worker with Supervisory Responsibilities and Support Worker in a Care at Home Service. Due to the needs of the service it is essential that you hold a current driving licence.

This post will work 30 hours per week as part of a residential rota which will include evenings, weekends and public holidays. There is also the requirement to undertake occasional sleep overs.

The Role

We offer whole family support and work individually and in groups with children, young people, parents and carers. In our first 18 months, we have supported over 50 families throughout the Scottish Borders, with 80% of referred children and young people continuing to live at home and remain connected to their school and community. We are looking to recruit a dynamic and creative individual to lead on the delivery and development of a mental health project which offers personalised, early intervention for young refugees who are experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges, with the aim of reducing the severity of their condition and increasing their resilience and ability to manage their day to day lives.

The Mental Health Project Coordinator will support the oversight of all activities including promotion, planning, assessment, delivery, evaluation and ongoing reporting of the project in conjunction with the Service Manager.

Working in partnership with the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Psychological Trauma Service (the Anchor), the post holder will co-develop assessments, workshop material, evaluation tools and co-deliver initial workshops to promote change that will lead to better outcomes for young men.

Our new Hub based provision will be across our bases in Bucksburn and Garthdee, offering community-based outreach services, residential short breaks and care at home services. In addition to this, the Hub will provide holistic family support to offer a menu of services that support and complement direct support offered to children and young people.

The successful candidates will work directly with children, young people and their families to build positive relationships and develop personalised supports to meet their needs. You will contribute to the development of care and support plans, working in an outcomes focused manner to ensure that children, young people and their families get the most out of their service. You will work closely with internal and external colleagues in a multi-agency approach to ensure that the holistic needs of children, young people and families are central to service provision.

You will have experience of working with young people in a community or residential setting. It is desirable that you have experience of supporting children and young people with complex disabilities and associated health needs in a range of settings. You will be required to dual register with the Scottish Social Services Council. To register you must hold or be willing to work towards a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (eg SVQ3 Care plus an HNC).

You will demonstrate confidence in your approach and have a good understanding of the complex and challenging circumstances that may arise for vulnerable children. You will display patience and empathy in your daily interactions and be reflective in your practice.

Befriending Coordinator

Aberlour Guardianship Service supports unaccompanied asylum seeking or trafficked children and young people to understand their progress through the asylum system, feel supported through the process, access the help they need and make informed decisions based on the available options. We help refugee children and young people, and victims of trafficking who arrive in Scotland without their parents.

The children and young people we help in the Scottish Guardianship Service have been through unimaginable traumas. Now they must they cope with being apart from their families in a strange, new country. They also face language and cultural barriers. In addition, the welfare and immigration system is very complicated and it can be difficult for them to understand.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our expanding team. This project is part funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, making management of migration flows more efficient across the European Union. We are looking to recruit a full time Befriending Coordinator (based in Glasgow), working 37.5 hours per week. You could be this person!

Working alongside our Guardians, you will recruit, train and match volunteers with our young people. You will have demonstrable experience of supporting volunteers. You will have a good understanding of the issues facing children within the asylum-seeking process along with experience of developing and delivering training.

You will have a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 8 and be driven to succeed.

Our 5% allowance recognises that the post holder may work out-of-hours, evenings and weekends to induct, train and support volunteers.

Community Support Practitioner (Aberlour Sustain Service)

Aberlour, in partnership with Scottish Borders Council, has developed a service for families with children at ‘the edge of care’, families who are often feeling overwhelmed by the complex demands of parenting and struggling to support the needs of their children at home, at school and in the community. At what can be a highly charged and emotional time for families, Sustain Borders offers a relationship based and strengths focused approach which helps build confidence and skills and supports connection to school and community.

Working collaboratively with local partners our aim is to help children and families stay together. Families experience a wide range of social and emotional challenges which can impact on health and wellbeing. Our relationship-based approach is informed by an understanding of attachment and the impact of trauma. We offer whole family support and work individually and in groups with children, young people, parents and carers. Our approach helps families to seek solutions, build on strengths and learn new skills, whether that is learning to play together or supporting a young person to take their first steps back into school.

In our first 18 months, we have supported over 50 families throughout the Scottish Borders, with 80% of referred children and young people continuing to live at home and remain connected to their school and community. We feel our flexibility and the intensity of our Sustain support model is a key factor in this success. The service is available ‘as and when required’, including during evenings and weekends, providing families with the support they need when they need it.

We have created a brand-new post to support our Resources and Procurement Manager to provide an effective, efficient and high quality property and facilities management service, whilst also delivering an effective corporate procurement function.

The post will work full time, 37.5 hours per week, initially as a fixed term contract for two years.

You will have experience in the field of property/facilities management; procurement/supply chain management; business administration; or planning and monitoring extensive data for a charity or other large organisation. You will have knowledge of building management, environmental management, contract law and insurances, procurement management and project management.

You will be comfortable creating and distilling information from databases into meaningful reports.

The posts main work base is expected to be Stirling however we allow flexible home working. You may be required to travel across Scotland to visit services.
