Advocacy Workers - Outreach Team

AdvoCard is a well-established and highly regarded advocacy organisation in Edinburgh. With a primary focus on providing independent advocacy to individuals affected by mental ill-health and/or problematic substance use, we work tirelessly to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are upheld. We also collaborate with various advocacy partners to collectively champion the rights and needs of our service users.

As part of our ongoing expansion efforts, we are now seeking 2 dedicated and passionate Advocacy Workers to join our existing Outreach Team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in our mission to provide drop-in services and outreach support across different localities in Edinburgh.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual advocacy work, providing support and representation for individuals affected by mental ill-health and/or problematic substance use.
  • Work collaboratively with the Outreach Team to deliver high-quality drop-in services and outreach support in various localities.
  • Empower and enable individuals to voice their concerns, exercise their rights, and actively participate in decisions regarding their own lives.
  • Engage with a diverse range of individuals and communities, building trust and rapport to effectively understand their unique needs and challenges.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in advocacy, social care, or a related field in either the statutory or third sector.
  • Strong understanding of mental health issues and the challenges faced by individuals with mental ill-health and/or problematic substance use.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with service users, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to advocacy work.
  • Commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of individuals.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to mental health advocacy is desirable.

We provide support to people of all ages with mental health issues, and most of our work relates to people subject to mental health law interventions.

We are looking for a new worker to join our busy and dynamic team, delivering advocacy to people in hospital, and at home, in Edinburgh. The post holder will provide independent advocacy on a one to one basis; supporting, informing and representing peoples wishes, as well as safeguarding their rights.

Finance and Admin Officer

We are looking for an experienced Finance and Admin Officer to provide support to the efficient and effective running of the charity. They will be responsible for the day to day management of AdvoCard’s financial systems, including the provision of information for payroll and the payment of invoices, the maintenance of record systems and various administrative functions.

We are looking for someone with experience of practical bookkeeping and thorough knowledge and understanding of financial systems including use of financial software. You will also have excellent IT skills and the ability to work as part of a small team while organising and prioritising your own work.

The hours can be worked flexibly and will be home based, with some work at the two AdvoCard bases in Edinburgh required on occasion.
