FRESH Year-FRESH Challenge-FRESH Food Solutions
Edinburgh Community Food is a dynamic, expanding food charity with a fresh approach to community food support. We need fresh talent for our non-executive board to help us navigate these challenging times and extend our impact.
If you have expertise in property acquisition and management, finance and accounting, HR and legal matters, sustainability, and circular economy we would love to hear from you. Third sector and board experience are advantageous but not necessary as governance support will be provided.
Even if you don’t have specific experience but feel you contribute to our community - especially raising our profile and connecting us with key organisations and future funders - please get in touch.
Our non-executive board meet once a month (a mix of online and in-person). To prepare for and attend these meetings, and other occasional contributions would require eight hours a month. In this way, your involvement can make a real impact.
Organisation profile
Edinburgh Community Food was established in 1996 and is a social enterprise and registered charity. Over the years it has developed as a centre of excellence for Food and Health work in the city and is highly regarded by Scottish Government and the City of Edinburgh Council who provide grant funding along with many other organisations
We provide a range of services and activities to promote healthy eating and tackle health inequalities across the city, particularly with people on low incomes or in poor communities, or with marginalised communities of interest. Our humanitarian food response during COVID and our Ukrainian support has significantly increased our impact and expertise in tackling food crisis.
Operation Strawberry our social enterprise provides REHIS training, a pop-up market with fresh fruit, locally sourced vegetables, food education and food discovery activities for all ages.
We are about to publish our strategic plan for the next three years and we have set ourselves three overriding aims:
