Advocacy Workers - (Various Positions)

The Advocacy Project is a rights-based organisation that applies the Principles, Standards and Code of Best Practice as defined by the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA). is fast approaching, in that, 2022 is a hugely significant year for the Advocacy Project, in that, the organisation is celebrating its 30th anniversary, a year which has also seen us commence our new 3-year agreement (with the potential of an extension for a further 2 year’s) with the Glasgow City Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP) – inclusive of services in relation to The Glasgow City Alcohol & Drug Partnership – (ADP) for the provision of ‘Independent Advocacy’ services.

Therefore, we are now also looking for a number of solution focussed and dynamic individuals who are committed to the principles of equalities and human rights to join our operational teams as Advocacy Worker’s so that they to assist with this, and that of, the seamless delivery of our other services across both the East Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire HSCP’s and to the benefit of service users and key stakeholders, whilst also, helping The Advocacy Project to continue to build upon its proud 30 year history.

Reporting to one of The Advocacy Projects 5 Operations Manager’s, as an Advocacy Worker you will deliver ‘Independent Advocacy’ services with the express aims of helping people both understand and then assert their rights, and where necessary, advocating in such a way as to protect those rights, whilst at all times also ensuring that individuals can remain as involved as is possible in the decisions which affect their day-to-day lives.

We are seeking to appoint a number of Advocacy Worker’s across our East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City and South Lanarkshire HSCP operational areas. The organisation is fast approaching a significant milestone, in that, 2022 will see The Advocacy Project organisation celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Due to the recent retirement of our long serving Operations Director, and following a subsequent internal promotion to that role, we now wish to offer the right individual an excellent opportunity to play a part in our achieving our organisational aspirations in terms of the future of our ‘Independent Advocacy’ provision as we embark upon a new 3-year agreement with the Glasgow City HSCP for the provision of ‘Independent Advocacy’ services.

We are looking for someone with the drive and clarity of vision to assist with the day-to-day and seamless delivery of our services across the East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City and South Lanarkshire HSCP’s to the benefit of our service users and key stakeholders whilst also helping The Advocacy Project to build upon its proud legacy.

The successful candidate will also have a key role as we continue to progress our COVD-19 Recovery Plan. The Advocacy Project is both soundly governed and well regarded, with a high performing, and talented leadership team in place. Moreover, the successful individual will be passionate about, and also committed to, our vision and mission to remain as one of Scotland’s leading organisations in terms of ‘Independent Advocacy’.

As a member of the organisation’s leadership team, the new appointee will lead a small team of Advocacy Workers in the day-to-day delivery of ‘Independent Advocacy’ services. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will be passionate about Quality Assurance and able to motivate, coach and support a small team of Advocacy Workers to deliver the highest quality ‘Independent Advocacy’ provision possible.

Internally you will be collegiate, an influencer and a reflective leader holding day-to-day accountability for thematic aspects of our work. Externally, the successful candidate will, proactively, build and then maintain relationships, whilst representing and promoting The Advocacy Project accordingly.

You will have an appropriate qualification, allied with relevant experience in a similar first line manager and/or supervisory type role where you actively contributed to your organisation’s strategic, business and service delivery objectives. You will also have relevant experience of leading positive change and improvement and be motivated to assist with the delivery of the objectives in our Charity’s Strategic Action Plan.

Whilst we are in the process of planning our transition back to that of office based working, The Advocacy Projects’ staff continue to work remotely at home and will continue to do so until it is appropriate to return to our office at Cumbrae House, Glasgow.

The Advocacy Project is at a significant point on its developmental journey, and following the retiral of its current and long serving, Operations Director, is looking for a new Operations Director to help lead the organisation forward into a sustainable future whilst building on its proud legacy. Central to this will be the future Operations Directors’ contribution to the organisations Strategic Action Plan and the ability to help develop business growth opportunities that will maximise the capabilities of the Advocacy Projects’ people.

As a member of our Senior Management Team, the successful candidate will lead on the day-to-day delivery and development of our ‘Independent Advocacy’ services. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be passionate about quality assurance and able to motivate, coach and support people to deliver the highest quality ‘Independent Advocacy’ possible.

Internally you will be a strong influencer and leader holding day-today accountability for our outcomes’ framework and contractual performance to drive forward standards, leading on quality assurance standards and monitoring our performance.

Externally, the successful candidate will have strong customer relationship skills proactively developing and maintaining productive relationships with commissioners, other organisations and sector leads. Your role will be to both cement existing relationships and establish new opportunities for growth.

You will have an appropriate Degree, with significant management experience in a similar leadership role and contributing to and realising an organisation’s strategic, business and service delivery objectives. You will also have extensive experience of leading complex change and development projects which have delivered positive and sustainable change. We are seeking a motivated individual with strategic management and leadership experience who can contribute to how we deliver our Strategic Action Plan and meet and exceed key service user, stakeholder and commissioner expectations.

This role includes co-ordination and facilitation of independent meetings for individuals, carers and other stakeholders for collective and self-advocacy groups. The ideal candidate will creatively use communication support tools and ICT to enhance engagement via consultations, focus groups and evaluations etc. Each project will require a comprehensive report and recommendations to be produced therefore, the ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills.

This role will be involved in organisational and project development as part of the wider operational team.
