The Open Door is looking for an Activities Coordinator to plan, organise and deliver a programme of activities in-house and within the community to engage, enthuse and entertain the members of our elderly day care services.
We are searching for someone who is creative and resourceful, with a warm and caring nature, and a sense of fun. The right person will be a strong team player with excellent communication and organisational skills. S/he will feel confident facilitating group sessions for individuals with different stages of dementia. In addition, s/he will have a good understanding of the needs of older people, including people with limited mobility and hearing, vision and memory loss. Previous experience in a similar role is highly desirable.

We’re seeking an excellent care manager with the ability to deliver high quality care and support services at The Open Door Edinburgh. You will be passionate about enabling people to live well in later life. You will be an effective communicator, organiser and leader who wants to deliver an excellent daycare service. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our daycare services for older people. You will deputise for the Operational Manager as required.

We support vulnerable older people to have fun with friends, and remain as active and independent as possible, through our social clubs and registered daycare services. We provide a welcoming space for people who may be feeling lonely or isolated, to chat and linger over a hot drink or light lunch in our neighbourhood cafe. We enable people of diverse ages, abilities and backgrounds to contribute to their local community through volunteering in our daycare services, café and other projects.

We were founded in 1982 by a retired nurse, Peggy Hunter, who strove to reduce loneliness and isolation within the community of Morningside, and the wider Edinburgh area.

The right person will be great with older people, an effective communicator, works well within a team, can use their initiative, and who is passionate about enabling people to live well in later life. You will be responsible for the supporting the delivery of our daycare services for older people.

Are you, or someone you know, inspirational, dynamic and looking to volunteer to help direct a great charity for a few hours per month?
The Open Door Edinburgh is a well-established, community organisation, delivering person-centred daycare services for older adults, to support wellbeing and to help reduce loneliness and isolation.
As a Director, you will be able to use and develop your experience and expertise to help guide and direct our organisation. We would welcome experience in one or more of the following areas of work:
We are keen to find dedicated individuals, who are willing to give the necessary time and effort to contribute to strategic planning, take part in events and support excellence in learning, development, delivery and training.
This is a voluntary, unpaid role and travel expenses will be reimbursed. Board meetings are typically held every 6 weeks and attendance at our AGM is encouraged.
