Bellshill and Mossend YMCA are looking to appoint a number of paid part time Befrienders across a few of their befriending projects:
1 x 7.5 hours per week post for befriending/eei
1 x 6 hours per week post for Pathways
The Befriending Project is a 12 week 1-to-1 intervention programme which engages with young people aged 8 to 16 from the North Lanarkshire area that are experiencing social isolation, anti social behaviour or poor engagement at school.
Early and Effective Intervention (EEI) is a 6 week 1-to-1 intervention that seeks to divert children and young people away from offending. EEI provides options to support children and young people who commit minor offences.
Pathways to Confidence is a early and effective intervention befriending service for young people 8-14years. This project aims to increase their confidence, self esteem as well as their school and community engagement. This project covers the areas of both North and South Lanarkshire.
The post holder should be a passionate and genuine individual, who is committed to supporting vulnerable young people in both 1-1 befriending and activity based settings. Self motivated with the ability to use their own initiative, you must possess a clear understanding of the need for and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and following all procedures and protocols in relation to working with young people, in order to keep them safe. EEI work may take place in the family home or school environment so communication is a key priority
Preferable experience in volunteering, caring roles, youth work or befriending would be an advantage. Due to the fact the posts will cover the whole of North and South Lanarkshire, driving licence is desirable.
Interviews will take place at 6pm at the YMCA in Bellshill, on Thursday 31st January.
Interviews will last approximately 50 minutes, and are a 2 part process:
Part 1 of the process is an individual interview with our YMCA Panel
Part 2 is a short period of time spent engaging with some young people.

The Association Manager will have line management responsibility for the Youth Work Team and the Administration/Facilities Team (based in our Main Street building) and the Childcare Manager (based in our Liberty Road building).

Our Association was founded in 1907 and we have grown and developed over the years to be recognised both locally and nationally for the high quality of services we deliver. The Board employ a range of full time and part time staff to implement and deliver our wide range of services.
A job opportunity has arisen in our Animar project which is based on our Liberty Road facility.
Animar is an inclusive short break service supporting young people and families with additional support needs. Animar addresses the need for transitional support for these young people moving towards school leaving age, understanding that independence in adulthood must be encouraged long before this time.
Aims and Objectives
The main aims of Animar are to promote young people’s independence in their community through;
