Media and Communications Officer

The role:

As media and communications officer, you will be responsible for leading on Oxfam’s media and communications output in Scotland. In this multi-faceted and challenging role, you will work to generate, develop and place engaging media stories which assist Oxfam to meet its domestic and international campaigning, fundraising and brand awareness objectives.

This is a role where no two days are the same. You will deliver effective and engaging supporter communications, including through email, website, social media and video as well as build, maintain and protect Oxfam’s reputation.

What we are looking for:

As media & communication officer you will have an excellent track record of delivering engaging public-facing communications for a range of audiences.

You will be able to demonstrate your ability to plan and manage your own workload effectively, juggle competing and fast-paced priorities; work to deadlines; and plan and manage the delivery and evaluation of communications projects.

About the role:

We are looking for an exceptional Project Assistant to join our A Menu for Change project team. You will have at least two years’ experience in a project support role within the private or third sector which has involved administration, finance, monitoring and event co-ordination duties.

What you’ll need:

Significant business support experience, including financial management

Ability to work independently with sound judgement, good time management, planning and prioritisation skills

High levels of numeracy and clear written communication skills.

Our team

The purpose of the UK Programme team is to identify and challenge the root causes of poverty in the UK and across the world. We do this through evidence based direct advocacy, by empowering people living in poverty to speak out and by connecting global and UK perspectives and solutions. This role sits within the Scotland team of our UK Programme and is based in our Glasgow office

What we are looking for

To perform this role, you’ll need a rather special set of qualities. Chief among them will be your practical experience of developing and delivering campaigns encompassing public and political influencing, and of working in partnership. You will be a skilled influencer and have significant and proven experience in communications. You’ll have strong knowledge and understanding of the political context in Scotland, and across the UK.

Your creative approach to problem-solving, and flexibility when it comes to planning and decision-making, will enable you to make the most of every new opportunity with an energy and enthusiasm that creates significant space for others to follow. You’ll need to combine that fresh-thinking with the confidence and credibility to represent Oxfam to a variety of audiences. You’ll do all this whilst operating at a senior level in our team and delivering to the highest of standards.

As Business & Support Manager you will be able to work with UK colleagues to ensure all health and safety requirements are fulfilled and to deliver effective facilities management for the Oxfam Scotland staff team. You will also be confident in budget management and will provide proactive business support to the UK Programme staff in Scotland.

You will lead the growth of Oxfam’s work in your region/nation, delivering real change for women and communities locally, regionally, at devolved level and UK-wide. You will play a critical role in the development and delivery of our programme and influencing work on a range of issues including women’s economic empowerment, food security and inequality.

You will also be able to work to high level to competing demands and manage your own workload without close supervision, making decisions and problem-solving on routine, new and complex problems with clarity and leadership. You will have strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate to a variety of audiences on complex issues.
