Early Years Scotland (EYS) is looking for an exceptional person to work within EYS Family Visitor Centre (FVC) at HMP Low Moss, East Dunbartonshire.

Families whose lives are affected by imprisonment face a range of emotional, financial and practical challenges and can find it difficult to access the information and support they need to overcome these difficulties. The EYS FVC improves the visit experience for children, families and friends by providing a welcoming, positive environment that reduces stress, builds confidence and provides a range of services, advice, support and information as required to suit the needs of the children and families in their visits and in their daily lives.

The Co-ordinator will facilitate, manage, and oversee the running of the FVC, line manage an Early Years Practitioner and a Family Support Worker, and co-ordinate the contribution of Volunteers. They will liaise with prison staff and community-based organisations to develop the provision and the services available to visitors to ensure the three core functions:

• improving the visits experience for people visiting their family member or loved ones in prison
• allowing families to access independent and impartial advice, information and support, which meets their needs
• championing families’ needs within the prison system

Post Details

• 30 hours per week over 52 weeks per annum
• Salary starting at Point 23, £20,307, per annum on scale 23-30 (£23,692- £29,692 FTE)
• Hours: 3 weekly rota including evenings and weekends
• Fixed Term to 31 March 2024

We are looking for a highly motivated and supportive Family Support Worker to facilitate sessions at the new Early Years Scotland Family Visitor Centre (FVC) at HMP Greenock.

Families who are affected by imprisonment face emotional, financial and practical challenges as a result of their family member’s imprisonment and can find it difficult to access the information and support they need to overcome these difficulties.

The EYS FVC improves the visit experience for children, families and friends by providing a welcoming, positive environment that reduces stress, builds confidence and provides emotional, financial and practical support for the visitors whose lives are affected by imprisonment.

This new service aims to achieve positive outcomes for family members and children by fulfilling three core functions:

• improving the experience of visiting a family member or loved one in prison
• allowing families to access independent and impartial advice, information and support which meets their needs
• championing families’ needs towards the prison system

The Family Support Worker will connect positively with visitors, offer information and advice and one-to-one support, and collaborate effectively with community-based services to develop the service. They will work predominantly on their own but also in close partnership with Scottish Prison Service (SPS) staff on a daily basis in order to provide a supportive and positive environment. The Family Support Worker will also be supported by the EYS Service Manager.

The role

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Finance Administrator to join our busy Finance Team based at the Early Years Scotland Main Office in Glasgow. You will be a first-class communicator who is confident working independently while being comfortable, eager and willing in a team context.

What skills does the post require?

You will be a highly numerate person with an eye for detail who is comfortable and experienced in book-keeping and financial recording procedures.

Main duties will include:

• Providing effective financial transactional processing

• Processing all income and expenditure through Sage Accounts

• Supporting the creation and monitoring of budget and management accounts in conjunction with the Finance Manager

• Bank reconciliation

• Working as an integral member of the Finance Team

• Supporting payroll and pension administration for staff

You will bring:

• Competent bookkeeping knowledge, experience and expertise

• Experience using Sage 50 Accounts, or similar, and accessing helpline support

• An understanding and reasonable experience of payroll processes

• Experience using internet banking

• Experience of bank reconciliation procedures

• A commitment to the highest standards of reliability, honesty and confidentiality

Although there is no requirement for a specific qualification, any relevant, recognised qualifications will be valued.

Working collaboratively with the EYS staff team you will have responsibility for managing and developing our funding and income generation activities including financial management, reporting directly to funders and supporting other managers with reporting. You will have cross-organisational management responsibilities as an integral member of the management team, and you will be a vital ambassador and advocate for Early Years Scotland.

Applicants should have proven experience in management and in securing funding from diverse sources including tenders, trusts, foundations, statutory and institutional donors. You will ideally have recent experience of a similar role with a funding organisation or not-for-profit organisation.
