Drug and Alcohol Support Worker

Job Summary:

The Scotland Drug and Alcohol Strategy (SDAS) works in partnership with Corps Community Programmes and The Salvation Army Homelessness Services Unit (HSU) and aims to provide an integrated mission focussed service to those with a drug and/or alcohol misuse issue. The service is delivered locally by dedicated Drug and Alcohol Support Workers (DASW’s) who must fulfil the Occupational Requirement to be a practicing Christian with a live church connection.

Key Responsibilities:

The role of the (SDAS) Drug and Alcohol Support Worker is specifically to provide person-centred support and appropriate interventions for individuals within a community setting who are dealing with drug and alcohol issues. The support offered is aligned to an integrated mission model that enables the Drug & Alcohol Support Worker to provide truly holistic support to all service users.

The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:

· Positive attitude and a high level of motivation towards supporting vulnerable clients to achieve focussed and positive life outcomes

· Ability to work in busy environment, be solution focused, show good time management skills and can demonstrate ability to prioritise and make decisions under pressure

Early Intervention Worker

One of the UK’s most inspiring and best known faith-based organisations, The Salvation Army, is looking for a motivated, compassionate and dynamic individual to join us as Early Intervention Worker at our Edinburgh homeless service. It is a progressive, forward thinking project that offers a wide range of support services including a crisis intervention, group work and a café area, and aims to provide a safe place where clients feel a sense of comfort, dignity and social acceptance.

As Early Intervention Worker you will be key to ensuring the day to day running of the service, through one to one and group work to achieve successful outcomes for our vulnerable clients. You will be responsible for developing and delivering a high quality programme of engagement which promotes client choice and control. You will address client support needs, enable them to achieve positive life changes and ultimately empower them to lead more sustainable lifestyles. You will also provide direct, practical support through the operation of the café, clothing store and engagement with other support partners in the centre and across Edinburgh.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Build Relationships by showing compassion, respect and non-judgement
  • Motivation towards supporting vulnerable clients to achieve focussed and positive life outcomes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good team working skills
  • Proficiency in a range of IT packages including Microsoft.

As Assistant Support Worker you will assist with the delivery of support to homeless clients, ensuring policies and procedures, are understood and adhered to at all time. In addition you will:

  • Work with clients as part of person centred support planning which includes providing assistance to access a range of meaningful activities either in-house or in the community to ensure successful client outcomes
  • Work with clients as part of the Support Team assisting to ensure the needs and actions within person centred support/risk management plans are addressed in a timely, professional and appropriate manner

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to work across our two sites in Penicuik and Lasswade and be the first point of contact for the residents. In this key role the Concierge will set the welcoming tone and atmosphere for the Lifehouse and be involved in all aspects of supporting homeless people to move on to new lives.

Key Responsibilities:

Front of house duties include; ensuring all clients and visitors are signed in and out, managing enquiries, phone calls, facilitating contractor visits and ensuring all those within the building are accounted for at all times, completion of Health & Safety tasks including weekly fire alarm tests and daily building checks.

The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:

  • Understanding of vulnerable client groups along with knowledge of Health & Safety.
  • Good customer service and time management skills with ability to prioritise workload.
