The centre is a homeless accommodation situated in Edinburgh’s city centre. It is a progressive, forward thinking project that offers a wide range of support services to its clients.

Key Responsibilities include offering front of house services to clients, ensuring they are signed in or out where required and their queries are handled in a professional manner, referring them to support staff where required. In addition you will:

  • Accurately record messages, conduct follow up telephone calls, update log books, handover and H&S records etc.
  • Work with clients to resolve conflict using de-escalation skills where appropriate
  • Complete building checks which may include patrols of the building
  • Carry out some admin, cleaning and laundry duties

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate motivation towards supporting vulnerable clients to achieve focussed and positive life outcomes. You will be eager to work within the ethos of The Salvation Army, with good customer service and time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload.

Drug and Alcohol Support Worker

Job Summary:

The Scotland Drug and Alcohol Strategy (SDAS) works in partnership with Corps Community Programmes and The Salvation Army Homelessness Services Unit (HSU) and aims to provide an integrated mission focussed service to those with a drug and/or alcohol misuse issue. The service is delivered locally by dedicated Drug and Alcohol Support Workers (DASW’s) who must fulfil the Occupational Requirement to be a practicing Christian with a live church connection.

Key Responsibilities:

The role of the (SDAS) Drug and Alcohol Support Worker is specifically to provide person-centred support and appropriate interventions for individuals within a community setting who are dealing with drug and alcohol issues. The support offered is aligned to an integrated mission model that enables the Drug & Alcohol Support Worker to provide truly holistic support to all service users.

The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:

· Positive attitude and a high level of motivation towards supporting vulnerable clients to achieve focussed and positive life outcomes

· Ability to work in busy environment, be solution focused, show good time management skills and can demonstrate ability to prioritise and make decisions under pressure

It is a progressive, forward thinking project that offers a wide range of support services including a crisis intervention, group work and a café area, and aims to provide a safe place where clients feel a sense of comfort, dignity and social acceptance.

As Early Intervention Worker you will be key to ensuring the day to day running of the service, through one to one and group work to achieve successful outcomes for our vulnerable clients. You will be responsible for developing and delivering a high quality programme of engagement which promotes client choice and control. You will address client support needs, enable them to achieve positive life changes and ultimately empower them to lead more sustainable lifestyles. You will also provide direct, practical support through the operation of the café, clothing store and engagement with other support partners in the centre and across Edinburgh.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

We provide debt counselling services, run food banks, provide night shelters for homeless people and support people get into long term employment. We provide 3,080 places every night for people experiencing homelessness.

The Scotland Office is working to raise the profile of The Salvation Army in various ways in the political arenas which exist in Scotland. Our aim is to raise awareness of the work of The Salvation Army, to have opportunity to influence policy and legislation in a way that will make a difference to the lives of the people who are using our services throughout Scotland. We do this by developing contacts with MSPs, civil servants, government ministers, secure opportunities to participate in relevant cross party groups and lobby politicians in support of our policies.

Key Responsibilities:

As Public Affairs Advisor you will have a leading role in developing stronger relationships for The Salvation Army with MSPs and will assist in the development of a new public affairs strategy in Scotland. You will share our passion for social justice and be an effective relationship builder and negotiator.

The successful candidate will have a degree level qualification or equivalent, with experience working for a member of parliament and considerable expertise in how parliamentary procedure can be used to further campaigns. Policy experience in any of these three areas - homelessness, modern slavery or universal credit would be an advantage.
