Vice-Chair

YouthLink Scotland is looking to appoint a Vice-Chair within the organisation. The Vice-Chair is a key volunteer within the organisation. The Vice-Chair, will deputise for the Chair and liaise with the CEO, to ensure that all aspects of corporate governance are accounted for and will hold the Board and Executive Committee* to account for the charity’s vision, mission,stated purpose in line with its governing documents and the law, upholding the organisation’s values.

*The Board Executive Committee includes the Chair, Vice-Chair and Honorary Treasurer

The Vice-Chair will be under 26 years of age and live in Scotland.

The Vice Chair will have experience of youth work either as a young person or through practice as a volunteer or paid worker.

Leadership & Direction

A desire to serve the best interests of Scotland’s young people and those organisations who work with them in a Youth Work setting.

Examples of working as part of a team in a collegiate style when working on developing or delivering a strategy or plan.

Working with the chair and the CEO, provide leadership to engage to board members and to ensure they remain aligned to the core values of the organisation

Governance

Prior board experience in chairing meetings, leading working groups, etc.

Commitment to transparent governance and adherence to the Nolan principles.

Knowledge of how organisations work, with an understanding of the roles and

responsibilities of a Board of Directors.

Knowledge of or a commitment to learn about Company Law, Charity Law, accounts,

budgeting and the principles of good governance.

Ability to manage potential conflicts of interest.

A willingness to devote time to the organisation in between the 5 formal Board meetings

approximately 1 day per month in preparation or other tasks over the course of a year.

Some knowledge and experience of the Youth Work Sector at operational, volunteering or strategic levels.

Network Support Officer

MAIN PURPOSE

To provide organisational and administrative support in the development of a new national network supporting youth workers who work with young people facing racism and antisemitism.

KEY RESULT AREAS

  • To liaise with a planning group to set agenda and dates for each network meeting.
  • To provide secretariat for all network meetings.
  • To communicate any relevant information to the network regularly.
  • Host meetings online or in person via YouthLink Scotland channels or rooms.
  • Provide support to members to connect with other YouthLink Scotland services or networks as required.
  • To work collaboratively with partners and other YouthLink Scotland staff across the organisation in order to deliver effective and integrated services.

Please note that within the normal duties of this post you may be required to carry out regulated work with children. This will include;

  • Unsupervised contact with children/young people under arrangements made by a responsible person

  • Moderating a public electronic interactive communication service which is intended for use wholly or mainly by children.

YouthLink Scotland is registered with Disclosure Scotland. Individuals carrying out regulated work with children within YouthLink Scotland will be asked to become members of the PVG Scheme. Successful applicants will be supported in completing this application form.

NB: It is illegal for a person to undertake regulated work if they are barred from doing so.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This is a temporary part-time post (2 days per week) for 6 months. There may be opportunity for extensions depending on funding.

The post will be part home-based (60%) and part office-based (40%) at the YouthLink Scotland offices in Edinburgh. Travel and subsistence allowances will be paid, based on relevant SJC rates. The normal working week is 35 hours (pro rata). By its nature, the post will sometimes require work to be undertaken during evenings and weekends. A willingness to work unsocial hours is therefore essential.

Annual holiday entitlement will be 25 days plus 12 public holidays (pro rata). A system of time off in lieu applies for hours worked over and above the normal working week.

We are seeking someone who has previous experience of delivering youth volunteering programmes and/or youth work. The candidate should have an understanding of the voluntary sector in Scotland and the role that youth work has in supporting young people to volunteer. They should be an excellent communicator, with strong partnership skills and have experience of using creative approaches to demonstrate the impact of projects to a diverse range of audiences.

A Qualification to SCQF LEVEL10 or have relevant skills and experience in a relevant discipline e.g. Social Sciences, Youth Work, Community Learning and Development.

We are seeking a dynamic, high calibre individual with a proven track record in leadership and a desire to serve the best interests of Scotland’s young people and those organisations who work with them. A knowledge of the charitable sector and experience of chairing is essential, as would be the ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.

The Chairperson should be independent – that is someone not currently employed within the youth work sector but has the right skillset and sector fit for the next chapter of the organisation.

The post is non remunerative although expenses will be paid.

The position is primarily about developing and delivering peer education capacity building training for practitioners and to integrate key findings from the latest evidence and research on violence prevention (i.e. masculinities, trauma informed, rights-based etc.) into a sustainable and replicable national (Scotland-wide) programme.

The role will support the No Knives Better Lives team to distil key messaging about preventing violence and using impactful stories (in particular ‘lived experiences’) to influence young people to see non-violent behaviour as the social norm.
