We are looking for a Chief Officer

YouthBorders is the network of voluntary and community-based youth organisations in the Scottish Borders, supporting and promoting good quality youth work.

We are recruiting a Chief Officer at an exciting time. YouthBorders is a growing organisation, and we seek a passionate, forward thinking, knowledgeable and highly motivated individual to provide strategic leadership and operational management to our membership network and staff team.

Our staff team are our greatest asset and so we’re looking for a Chief Officer who can provide supportive leadership to them, creating an environment that promotes on-going learning. Our Chief Officer will connect with, and understand, the challenges faced by voluntary and community-based youth organisations in the Scottish Borders and be able to take an innovative and creative approach to develop new opportunities and projects to overcome these challenges.

You will be able to work with a high degree of autonomy to advance the organisation’s work and contribute to improving outcomes for young people through youth work in the Scottish Borders.

Membership Outreach Officer

YouthBorders are growing our staff team to respond to increased demand for our support; and following sustained membership growth over the past 2 years.

We are looking for someone who can bring knowledge, skills, and experience to YouthBorders. Our members told us that the three most important things our Membership Outreach Officer will be is:

• Knowledgeable and experienced in Youth Work

• Approachable and friendly

• Knowledgeable and experienced in third sectors / charities

You will work alongside our Senior Membership Development Officer to fulfil the organisation’s requirements for membership support, development, and growth. This will include taking the lead on membership outreach visits, co-creating a membership health check, and the provision of small group support sessions or training.

You will be the principle point of contact for YouthBorders members in relation to their organisational development needs and governance support; and to provide tailored support to individual members, reflecting their recently identified priorities:

a. Training and Workforce Development

b. Funding and Fundraising

c. PVG Scheme and Child Protection

d. Youth Work Skills and Practice

Membership and Networks Officer

YouthBorders is the network of voluntary and community-based youth organisations in the Scottish Borders, supporting and promoting good quality youth work.

YouthBorders is growing our team to respond to increased demand for our support; and following sustained membership growth over the past 2 years. We are recruiting flexibly for staff to join us to further our Membership and Networks support. This opportunity is available as 1 post of 28 hours/week; or could be split in to two positions, one of 17.5 hours and one of 10.5 hours per week.

Successful applicants will be motivated and driven, with a commitment and passion to strengthening communities. You will be membership focused and deliver outputs and achieve outcomes which advances the relationship between YouthBorders and our members. You will support our aim of improving young people’s lives through quality youth work.

You will work alongside our Senior Membership Development Officer to fulfil the organisation’s requirements for membership support, development and growth. You will establish and support a Voluntary and Community Services Network which engages with third sector organisations (specifically those providing emotional health and wellbeing support to young adults aged 16-25) to further collaboration, partnership, and to amplify the voice of organisations and their service users.

Youth Development Worker (Inspire Awards)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join YouthBorders as a Youth Development Worker. Working with our partners (Scottish Borders Council and Volunteer Centre Borders) the postholder will deliver and advance the Scottish Borders Inspire Awards Project. The Scottish Borders Inspire Awards recognises and celebrates the positive impact and outstanding contributions of young people in the Scottish Borders through volunteering, community activism, and social action.

Objectives of the Role:

  • To establish and provide ongoing support of an effective young people’s planning group, operating under the governance of YouthBorders, to develop and advance the Scottish Borders Inspire Awards.
  • Planning and delivery of Inspire Awards in March 2023 – representing YouthBorders and working in partnership with Volunteer Centre Borders to promote youth volunteering and youth social action.
  • Stakeholder engagement to build an Inspire Awards partnership, drawing together local strategic partners who share the vision of Inspire and who may be able to provide sponsorship or in-kind support to the delivery of Inspire awards in future years.
  • Supporting and enabling young people to engage with senior representatives of organisations or elected members.
  • Securing funding and sponsorship to sustain youth work support for the Inspire Awards planning group and the delivery of the Inspire Awards on a regular cycle.

Experience

The postholder must have a minimum of 2 years' experience of working with young people in a professional, community or education setting and be educated to SCQF Level 6 or above in Youth Work or relevant related field. This post is subject to PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Disclosure.
