If you want to make a difference and improve the lives of everyone in the country, the Equality and Human Rights Commission needs to hear from you.
The work we do affects everyone and is about making Britain fairer. Whether that's fighting for better rights for disabled people, progress on race or gender equality, or ending discrimination at work, we are the leading voice that makes change happen.
Working in the Commission’s Scotland Policy and Communications team, the Public Affairs Manager (Communication & Parliamentary) will play a unique role in ensuring that Governments in Scotland and the UK maintain progress on equality and human rights at this time of significant political and constitutional change. Working across the media and Parliament the post holder will play a key role in communicating our key messages and reaching out and listening to stakeholders views. A key challenge for the post holder is to communicate the Commissions complex role and the interplay of reserved and devolved powers.
The successful candidate will draw on their political analysis and networks to build relationships and influence that will ensure the Commission is at the forefront of critical debates.
In an average week you could be working with our GB team on a campaign we are launching soon; developing a press release with Scottish colleagues on an important case that we have just won; liaising with our Publications Team to finalise a new report that we’ll be issuing; meeting with policy colleagues in Holyrood to discuss their concerns about equality or human rights future work ; discussing forthcoming Committee business with Parliamentary clerks; or writing reports for our management, Scotland Committee or Board on the progress of our work.
In return, we can offer you a great place and a dedicated team working with you on subjects that really matter to people. We will support you in developing professional skills and expertise, encourage you to seek out opportunities and provide opportunities for you to broaden your horizons, develop new skills, and progress your career.
We welcome enquiries from everyone and value equality and diversity in our workplace. A commitment to promoting inclusion and developing a workplace environment where all staff are treated with dignity and respect is central to our recruitment process.
For this vacancy, we actively encourage applications from people from ethnic minority groups, who are currently underrepresented in our workforce at a regional level.
We are also committed to the employment and career development of disabled people. We offer a Guaranteed Interview scheme and will make reasonable adjustments to all stages of our recruitment process where asked to do so. Should you wish to apply under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme or request a reasonable adjustment please indicate this on your application form. If you would prefer to discuss this with us or require additional support please contact us via e-mail on Recruitment@equalityhumanrights.com or via telephone on 01618298100.
