Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to work as an Education Support Worker in our Lifeworks project in Fife. The service is for young people who have been ‘looked-after at home’. The role involves working directly with children and young people, who are looked after at home or who are in kinship care, to develop and engage in activities to help them attain educationally.

The role involves working in partnership with other agencies to ensure a collaborative, joined up approach. The role is not restricted to the confines of the school environment, but extends to cover a range of associated aspects which can impact on a young person’s ability to take advantage of the opportunities available to them. Each young person will have different requirements, and each will have a care plan which will set the framework within which your duties will be carried out. Duties might be:

· working with a school to identify pathways into school for the young people

· ensuring the young person is enabled to identify and access subjects they are interested in

· supporting the young people to develop and engage in ways that are likely to enhance their educational attainment

· encouraging parents to be involved, which is key to supporting the engagement of young people

· helping the young people to get to school - bus journeys and routes or escorting them to school

As well as this, the Education Support Worker will support the young person with a range of practical skills:

· building confidence and self-esteem in a way that is ambitious but also realistic

· looking at opportunities beyond school to help the young people to understand what the options are when they leave school

· assist the young people with CVs and mock interviews to help them take advantage of what is available to them

This post is offered on a fixed term basis until 31st July 2021 in the first instance with the possibility of extension.

If you feel you have the right mix of skills and knowledge to undertake this role, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please ring Andy Finlay, Admissions and Programmes Manager, Aberlour on: 07854 958120 for an informal discussion.
