Research & Participation Worker

How you'll help to create a fairer Scotland for young women and girls:

  • Deliver our participatory research workshops and training to amplify more young women’s voices, support their participation in the movement and influence change on a national scale
  • Support the Research & Policy Lead with the development of new research opportunities that support young women & girls to have their experiences and voices heard
  • Reach, recruit and register new participants to our research opportunities
  • Work with young women and girls on our research projects and signpost them to opportunities for their continued engagement both within our movement and in communities/wider society
  • Support young women to attend events, meetings and other public facing opportunities to share their insights

Leadership and Governance

  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contribute to the leadership and delivery of the Young Women’s Movement strategic and operational goals
  • Lead and inspire the Collective Voice & Action; Learning and Engagement and Business and Finance Team’s workload and activities, including direct line management of the Collective Voice & Action Lead; Learning & Engagement Lead; Business & Finance Coordinator
  • Work with the CEO, Treasurer and external accountant on the Management Accounts for the quarterly Finance Subcommittee; and contribute towards papers for the Quarterly Board meetings
  • Support the CEO with contributions to the overall organisation strategy and development
  • Within your areas of responsibility and supporting the wider organisation, ensure compliance with all related policies and procedures e.g. HMRC, Pensions Regulator, Companies House & OSCR
  • Provide additional management cover when necessary

Operational Management

  • Work with the CEO, Leads and young women to develop and expand our existing programmes and ensure we are constantly innovating in programme and product development to meet the needs of the young women we support
  • Replicate and expand existing programmes across Scotland whilst also adopting a proactive and strategic approach to developing new and innovative programmes

Finance

  • Work with the CEO to set, manage and monitor organisation and project budgets
  • Work with budget holders to manage and monitor budget lines and authorised expenditure within delegated limits and YWM financial policies and procedures
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO and Business and Finance Coordinator to ensure a strong synergy between organisational planning and financial and resource sustainability
  • Lead on the annual production and audit of the organisation’s statutory accounts, including preparation and completion of the statutory accounts in accordance with charity and accounting standards, and submission of annual returns to the Charity Commission and Companies House
  • Oversight of the charity’s investments; including providing regular and timely advice to the Board on investment management and delivery

HR, Culture and People

Overseeing HR strategies, HR compliance, and ensuring HR strategies that mean our team are supported, skilled, and developed

  • Maintain and develop strong cross-team relationships within YWM
  • Using external experts as required, co-ordinate and interpret advice on any human resource issues arising

  • Oversee the YWM’s information management, incorporating legal and regulatory requirements (GDPR), data security, and use of data and insight to deliver the objectives of the movement

Programmes Officer (Glasgow)

If you’re passionate about co-designing and facilitating programmes, join us as our Programmes Officer (Glasgow) to help us on our mission to build a fairer Scotland for all women and girls!

This exciting role will be based in our Glasgow Centre and include working with diverse groups and communities both from our centre, and in outreach around Glasgow City and potentially other locations if/as required. Due to the needs of our service delivery, this is an in-person, on-location role. Remote/home working may be available on occasion but is not the norm.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Promoting strong feminist leadership through structured learning experiences which stimulate awareness of equality issues from a feminist perspective.
  • Registering and delivering programmes for women within our Glasgow Centre or as outreach within a community setting, both face-to-face sessions or online.
  • Supporting the planning and co-creation of workshops and learning programmes for delivery at our Glasgow Centre and with outreach partners.
  • Delivering our schools programme to P6/7 pupils at primary schools in Glasgow.
  • Delivering the Empowering Pathways for Women programme to women within our Glasgow Centre or within a community setting.
  • Managing existing partnerships with Glasgow schools and other external organisations.
  • Building and maintaining strong links across the various communities in Glasgow to promote and highlight our work.

The new Chair will lead our skilled and passionate Board of Trustees. We’ve had a significant period of growth over the last year, and we’re entering an exciting and ambitious time for the organisation as we finalise our next three-year strategy.

I joined the board because I wanted a seat at the table where my contributions and opinions would be valued but also be taken on an actionable basis. The YWCA board has enabled me to experience conversations and topics I had not previously ventured into, that experience is invaluable. When I look at the board, I see a better reflection of the kind of sisterhood I want to see more in society and having that seat is a big responsibility but a privilege.

Research and Facilitation Coordinator

YWCA Scotland, in partnership with Code Clan, are delighted to embark on a new project, Young Women Code, that will contribute to ending gender disparity in the digital technology sector in Scotland.

This new partnership project will see YWCA Scotland and Code Clan work collaboratively as experts in our respective sectors to identify, address and reduce the intersecting barriers and challenges facing women entering and progressing within the digital technology sector. The project will take an intersectional approach to identify and address the multiple barriers that women may be experiencing such as age, gender, race, class or sexuality, and others.

Diversity and a skilled workforce go hand in hand: we cannot address one without the other. Closing the digital skills gap is dependent on empowering women and girls of all backgrounds to enter into, and progress in, digital technology careers.

YWCA is recruiting a Research and Facilitation Coordinator to deliver this project with support from the Research and Impact Manager. This post will spend the majority of their time specifically working on the 'Young Women Code' project.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out robust qualitative and quantitative research, through desk-based reviews, interviews and focus groups with an intersectional feminist lens.

• Evaluating training programmes with an intersectional lens, assessing what barriers exist in the digital sector to the participation of young women.

• Using participatory approaches to research, including young women in the design of research projects.

• Engaging and accessible report writing and presenting.

• Identifying, engaging with and maintaining/nurturing strong networks with our project partners.

• Working with private sector partners to develop learning and apply them to their existing programmes along with supporting work placements in the private sector for women and girls learning to code.

• Developing tools, training and resources informed by the research.

• Facilitating training sessions and workshops with partners to create inclusive workplaces for women.

• Providing tailored support to partners to embed recommendations to support more inclusive workplaces for women

• Leading on sharing research findings, information and best practise with networks and partners.

Purpose

To provide leadership and direction to YWCA Scotland - The Young Women’s Movement, enabling the organisation to thrive while fulfilling its charitable objects and its mission to create spaces for Scotland's women and girls to lead social change.

Responsible for:

● Providing leadership and strategic direction to The Young Women’s Movement. Ensuring it aligns with the charity’s mission, vision, strategic objectives and annual performance targets

We’re excited to announce this opportunity to join our wee (but powerful) group of feminists working in our national team as a Business Development Manager, £35,000 (full time, 28 hours per week)

The purpose of this role is to develop and drive the business development plan, identifying new opportunities that fit with our strategic vision and mission to inspire young women in Scotland and to reduce gender inequality. You will lead the development of consultancy and training opportunities to generate income. You will support our strong track record of securing funds from trusts and foundations through grant applications as well as leading on the growth and future development of new income streams from corporate partnerships and other sources. You will support the CEO with developing leads for new services/income streams. You will also support evaluation of our programmes.
