About the Role

SAMH is delighted to be partnering with Aberdeenshire Council to expand our SAMH Time for Me programme to young people in schools and communities across Aberdeenshire. To achieve this we are seeking experienced practitioners to work full time, and during term-time with young people from Aberdeenshire high schools. Time for Me is a community based 8 session life skills course for young people aged 11 – 18 years experiencing low mood and/or anxiety. Based on the cognitive behavioural approach it provides young people with time and space to explore, discuss and understand their difficult feelings, thoughts and behaviours. It aims to reduce anxiety, improve wellbeing, increase confidence and resilience, and help young people to develop tools to manage life’s challenges.

The programme can be delivered individually within schools or community venues. We also hope to develop and trial a group work programme. The programme can be delivered both face to face and digitally. In addition to Time for Me, the Time for Me Practitioner will deliver a range of digital and face-to-face mental health and wellbeing workshops to parents and carers. These workshops aim to increase mental health awareness, whilst also tackling mental health stigma, and provide information and tools to enable people to support their own and others’ mental health and wellbeing.

What we are looking for

We are looking for individuals with extensive experience of working with young people around their mental health and wellbeing. With exceptional communication skills and ability to manage own case load, you’ll need to be flexible to respond to the needs of the service and young people, ensuring your practice is of the highest quality at all times.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced digital project manager to help the organisation to develop, evolve and implement our innovative and ambitious digital strategy.

About the Role

SAMH Redhall is a mental health recovery project based in a walled garden in South-West Edinburgh. We have a wonderful location in a wooded dell by the Water of Leith and indoor and outdoor facilities including polytunnels, vegetable beds, ornamental gardens, orchard, kitchen, library and training room.

The Instructor Team at Redhall provide a supportive environment to learn and practice skills in horticulture. The service has structured days and encourages people to build routine, be more active, spend time outdoors and work alongside others. Our Peer Worker and Employability Practitioner offer additional support for people to better manage their mental health, develop confidence and progress their goals.

The garden is open to the public during the week and also plays host to local partner projects who might arrange their own activities in the grounds. We also organise open days to sell plants, promote the service and raise awareness.

The Team Leader will be responsible for the day to day delivery of effective social and therapeutic horticulture activities at SAMH Redhall, creating a positive and purposeful environment for staff, service users and wider community.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a track record of managing the delivery of programmes in health, greenspace and/or community settings. You will have the skills to undertake all aspects of managing the project day to day from the ground up - overseeing site/garden maintenance, developing programmes, managing staff and ensuring quality of support.

You have an understanding of partnership working and can identify and develop opportunities for joint working, coordinate and communicate with colleagues across the third sector and make reports to funders as required.

During the Every Life Matters suicide prevention action plan, the world’s first suicide prevention social movement; United to Prevent Suicide (UtPS) was established. UtPS was built on the belief that no-one understands the issues, barriers and solutions to suicide prevention better than those who have experienced it – personally, as part of a family, as a member of the community or as part of their work. It aims to be a social movement led by people with a range of lived experiences working together as a powerful catalyst for change.

The Scottish Government and COSLA have launched Creating Hope Together, a new 10-year suicide prevention strategy and three-year action plan. The action plan contains a commitment to “Continue to grow Scotland’s suicide prevention social movement, United to Prevent Suicide (UtPS) by encouraging people in communities and organisations – across all sectors – to join the movement and participate.”

About the Role

The Hive is a SAMH service situated in the grounds of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital providing an activity centre and coffee bar for in- patients of the hospital. The Hive is a fun lively place to work, we offer a welcoming space for patients away from the wards where they can get involved in activities and social events e.g. art, clay modelling, t-shirt printing, jewellery making, creative writing, support groups, seasonal events, pilates, yoga, karaoke, quizzes and many more!

If you have creative skills that you would like to share and have some experience of mental health we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will assist in the day to day running of the coffee bar serving drinks, snacks, keeping the coffee bar area clean and tidy in line with food hygiene regulation. They will also be responsible for leading and encouraging patient involvement in activities in the Hive activity centre, this can be providing group work such as exercise (e.g. walking group, yoga), support groups (Hearing Voices, SMART addictions and Self Harm). They will also be expected, to provide activities and events such as arts, crafts and music groups.

The post will also involve promotional and administrative tasks. The post requires flexibility in the hours that you are available to work.

Applications are welcome from people who have experienced mental health difficulties. PVG Scheme Membership, a Right to Work in the UK check and proof of qualifications declared on the application form are required.

What we are looking for

Creative and enthusiastic person to work with our small team to ensure a welcoming environment for in-patients. Experience of mental health and associated challenges desirable. Skills and experience in one or more arts, crafts, yoga/pilates, music or support groups is essential. About the Role

The Service Manager role will be responsible for SAMH’s psychological wellbeing service, Time for You and SAMH’s Information service. Time for You is SAMH’s national psychological wellbeing service that provides wellbeing coaching and talking therapy to individuals experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns. Time for You offers predominantly digital support with pilots of place-based support in certain regions. The Information Service provides information and resources on mental health for individuals who are seeking support or looking for more information about mental health for themselves or their loved ones.

Initially set up as a support to frontline workers in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, Time for You has since expanded and developed into a service which has become pivotal in SAMH delivering on the psychological wellbeing arm of our We Won’t Wait strategy. Time for You has continued to see a substantial increase in demand since its inception and the Service Manager will have the opportunity to lead a growing team to deliver a service where anyone aged 16+ living in Scotland can self-refer and receive help fast.

As the Time for You service evolves and grows, we are looking for a Service Manager who can both lead the operational delivery of the existing service, and be a key contributor to the design of the future of the service, leading the implementation of the development work currently underway. As such, strong project management skills and knowledge of psychological coaching and talking therapies would be highly advantageous.

This is a very exciting time to be joining the Time for You and Information Service team as the successful candidate will have a real voice into the design of both services, and the opportunity to work collaboratively to shape the future of these services to meet our aim of delivering services where people can “ask once, get help fast”.

Role Profile

The Time for You Service Manager is responsible and accountable for leading, co-ordinating and developing the high quality delivery of the Time for You service. They will provide dynamic, confident and positive leadership and management while demonstrating and evidencing the following;

  • Leading and managing staff and volunteer teams to ensure safe and effective provision of support to those people who use the service through the promotion of outcomes focused person centred approaches.

What we are looking for

Candidates with proven significant experience in the field of mental health working as a registered professional (mental health, nursing, allied health or counselling) and have delivery experience and knowledge of a range of approaches to meet the needs of people who have a mental health diagnosis i.e. CBT approaches, motivational interviewing.

About the Role

SAMH is delighted to be partnering with Aberdeenshire Council to expand our SAMH Time for Me programme to young people in schools and communities across Aberdeenshire. To achieve this we are seeking experienced practitioners to work full time, and during term-time with young people from Aberdeenshire high schools.

Time for Me is a community based 8 session life skills course for young people aged 11 – 18 years experiencing low mood and/or anxiety. Based on the cognitive behavioural approach it provides young people with time and space to explore, discuss and understand their difficult feelings, thoughts and behaviours. It aims to reduce anxiety, improve wellbeing, increase confidence and resilience, and help young people to develop tools to manage life’s challenges.

The programme can be delivered individually within schools or community venues. We also hope to develop and trial a group work programme. The programme can be delivered both face to face and digitally.

In addition to Time for Me, the Time for Me Practitioner will deliver a range of digital and face-to-face mental health and wellbeing workshops to parents and carers. These workshops aim to increase mental health awareness, whilst also tackling mental health stigma, and provide information and tools to enable people to support their own and others’ mental health and wellbeing.

What we are looking for

We are looking for individuals with extensive experience of working with young people around their mental health and wellbeing. With exceptional communication skills and ability to manage own case load, you’ll need to be flexible to respond to the needs of the service and young people, ensuring your practice is of the highest quality at all times.

We are entering a new and exciting phase in our Children and Young People offering and seek an experienced Service Manager to support our projects and staff.

This includes our school and community based targeted support programmes, which have a focus on early intervention, resilience, prevention and recovery.

Our work also involves building the mental health knowledge and skills of children, young people, their parents/carers and staff through our locality based and national capacity building work.

As a result of our work children and young people’s mental health stigma and discrimination is reduced; they feel more able to seek and receive support at a time when they need it most, while adults feel confident to have mental health conversations, and know better how to look after themselves while supporting others.

Working alongside the Children and Young People Development Manager the Service Manager will ensure the smooth delivery of our projects, consolidating and developing systems, structures and practice, to ensure the best outcomes for those we support and engage with.

They will manage a staff team that includes support workers, trainers, our Let’s Connect team leader and Admin and Marketing Co-ordinator.

The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge and experience of children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing, and have worked with schools, youth groups, health including CAMHS.

The service manager will have excellent people, leadership and communication skills, with experience in staff management, service development and young person-centred support work. They will have an understanding of the challenges that children, young people and their families’ experience, which impacts on mental health and wellbeing, along with the barriers they face getting the support that they require.

With experience in project funding, contracts and partnership working they will work alongside SAMH colleagues, funders, local authorities, health boards and other partners to support and review existing projects and delivery models, along with the development of new and innovative approaches, in line with our strategy in supporting children and young people’s mental health.

SAMH Redhall is a mental health recovery project based in a walled garden in South-West Edinburgh. We have a wonderful location in a wooded dell by the Water of Leith and indoor and outdoor facilities including polytunnels, vegetable beds, ornamental gardens, orchard, kitchen, library and training room. The Instructor Team at Redhall provide a supportive environment to learn and practice skills in horticulture. The service has structured days and encourages people to build routine, be more active, spend time outdoors and work alongside others. Our Peer Worker and Employability Practitioner offer additional support for people to better manage their mental health, develop confidence and progress their goals. The garden is open to the public during the week and also plays host to local partner projects who might arrange their own activities in the grounds. We also organise open days to sell plants, promote the service and raise awareness. The Team Leader will be responsible for the day to day delivery of effective social and therapeutic horticulture activities at SAMH Redhall, creating a positive and purposeful environment for staff, service users and wider community.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a track record of managing the delivery of programmes in health, greenspace and/or community settings. You will have the skills to undertake all aspects of managing the project day to day from the ground up - overseeing site/garden maintenance, developing programmes, managing staff and ensuring quality of support. Fife Care at Home and housing Support Service provides support to individuals with severe and enduring mental ill health in their transition from long term hospital stay to living as independently as they can in the community. This work is about helping people to live well and achieve the things in life that really matter to them. We have roles available in a 24/7 mental health service, commissioned by Perth and Kinross Council, supporting people living with severe and enduring mental health issues and common co-morbities, such as neurodevelopmental conditions, to live fulfilled lives and achieve their goals. Based at the heart of Perth, this exciting re-design of an existing service will use recovery focussed interventions, supporting people to develop skills and positive support networks towards living an independent life in the community.

The Recovery Coach is a flexible, multi-skilled role providing direct emotional wellbeing and practical support to individuals to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Working with people on a 1-2-1 or group basis, in people’s homes and communities, the Recovery Coach will work with individuals to identify their strengths, issues and goals. SAMH is seeking an experienced practitioner to deliver the SAMH Time for Me programme across South West Edinburgh, as part of the Wellbeing Together South West partnership, which has been formed to provide essential community mental health and wellbeing support to children and young people aged 5-24 years (26 if care experienced). The Wellbeing Together South West partnership is made up of four organisations – SAMH, Space at Broomhouse Hub, Big Hearts Community Trust and With Kids.

Time for Me is a community based 8 session life skills course for young people aged 11 – 18 years experiencing low mood or anxiety. Based on the cognitive behavioural approach it provides young people with time and space to explore, discuss and understand their difficult feelings, thoughts and behaviours. It aims to reduce anxiety, improve wellbeing, increase confidence and resilience, and help young people to develop tools to manage life’s challenges.

The programme can be delivered both individually and in groups, within schools or community venues. It can also be delivered online.

In addition to Time for Me, the Time for Me Practitioner will deliver a range of digital and face-to-face mental health and wellbeing workshops for young people, school staff and parents/carers. The workshops aim to increase mental health awareness, whilst also tackling mental health stigma, and provide information and tools to enable people to support their own and others’ mental wellbeing, including knowing where to go for help should they need it.

What we are looking for

We are looking for an individual with extensive experience of working with young people around their mental health and wellbeing. With exceptional communication skills and ability to manage own case load, you’ll need to be flexible to respond to the needs of the service and young people, ensuring your practice is of the highest quality at all times.

About the Role

As part of the Scottish Government Mental Health Strategy Action 15 and in partnership with Fife Health and Social Care Partnership SAMH have the opportunity deliver a peer support project. The work within the community project is peer led and has an assets based approach to supporting people who are presenting as identifying as being in crisis. First responders can also refer individuals to the project.

Sam’s peer community project was established in April 2019 based in Kirkcaldy. It now offers peer support in Kirkcaldy /Dunfermline /Leven areas as well in the Emergency Department of Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy.

SAMH are recruiting to the posts of peer support practitioners. This is an exciting role for people with a lived experience of mental health issues and own recovery journey.

Peer support practitioners will offer a proactive approach, working with people in communities of diversity and will have a strong people focussed values base. Peer practitioners are role models of recovery and will have responsibility for working in a professional manner that values this asset. This is no 9-5 role and therefore we are looking to employ people who are able to work between the hours of Noon -11pm. SAMS is open 7 days so staff must also be willing to work weekends on a rotational basis

Peer Support Practitioners will use their own lived experience of mental health issues to support service users in a recovery focussed way. Using formalised peer support models the Peer Support Practitioner will enhance the support provided to the individual.

There is an expectation that peer support practitioners will facilitate initial crisis intervention, on -going resiliency, 1:1 sessions as well as group work. Offering support that is tailored to individuals expressed needs. There is an expectation the peer support team will have a flexible , dynamic approach that ensures all attendees receive a consistent high quality of support.

About the Role

SAMH has a well established reputation for delivering excellent support to people with mental health problems throughout Dundee. Our Care at Home service has a purpose built specialist supported accommodation project in the heart of the city. We are seeking outstanding and motivated people to deliver the service and provide support to people with enduring mental illnesses and complex needs to regain their independence and improve their self-resilience and self-management skills.

What we are looking for

The Senior Practitioner will play an important part in establishing ongoing relationships between staff and service users.

The Senior practitioner will:

  • Provide direction and guidance to a team of Practitioners supporting individuals in the accommodation to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Work with service users to define their own action plans and coordinate, evaluate and review this support
  • Provide practice supervision and mentorship to Practitioner staff within the team and highlight areas for development and training needs to Service Manager.
  • Maintain the highest personal and professional standards. Work professionally and collaboratively with internal and external colleagues, those who use our services and members of the public and to meet the requirements of funders and regulators.
  • Undertake personal responsibility for conduct and work ethic in line with SAMH Code of Conduct, the SSSC Codes of Practice and other relevant professional standards.

About the Role

About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced manager to manage our Care Inspectorate registered North Lanarkshire Support Service and manage and oversee our Expeerience Counts service. Both services are based within North Lanarkshire.

North Lanarkshire Support Service (NLSS) is a Care Inspectorate registered service for people with severe and enduring mental health problems. This service has been running since 2018 in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council, North Lanarkshire Health & Social Care Partnership and NHS Lanarkshire.

Working in close collaboration with other statutory partners, the North Lanarkshire Support Service model is well established, fast paced and recovery focussed based on three pathways of support depending on need: 6 week in-reach and discharge support in hospital; 2-week post discharge/responsive outreach support to prevent (re)admission; up to 12weeks community inclusion/re-ablement support. Using a person centred and creative approach and offering the right support at the right time, it is envisaged that service users can move on to experience a better quality of life and independence.

Operating since 2013, our Expeerience Counts Service is a non-registered Peer Support service supporting individuals over a 12week period harnessing the lived experience of Peer Workers to deliver a recovery-focussed, sustainable community-based service to support people’s mental health and wellbeing using structured self-management tools. Offering both 1:1 sessions and group work, Peer Workers use both MyRAP and Living Life to the Full as structured interventions. In addition, locality-based Community Link Workers connect individuals with community resources to increase access to specialist support and promote self-management and social inclusion.

Also part of Expeerience Counts is our Well Informed North Lanarkshire information service. This promotes mental health/wellbeing resources via ‘shop front’ accessible walk in facility, information stalls, community engagement and signposting via phone calls and online/social media.

What we are looking for

We are committed to providing care and support to our service users and are looking for a Service Manager 2 who is equally dedicated to the provision of outcome focused person centred care.

The Service Manager 2 will provide dynamic, confident and positive leadership and management while demonstrating and evidencing the following;

  • Be suitably qualified to apply for and become the Registered Manager with the Care Inspectorate for The North Lanarkshire Support Service ensuring all relevant standards, legislation and best practices are met.
  • Attend and work confidently and collaboratively within partnerships and represent SAMH at strategic partnership meetings.
  • Leading and managing teams to ensure safe and effective provision of support to those people who use the service through the promotion of outcomes focused person centred approaches.

About the role

You will be joining an experienced board of Trustees who welcome sharing that expertise with those with less experience and learning from those who bring different professional skillsets.

SAMH Trustees oversee the strategy and governance of SAMH to ensure that the charity is run in the interests of the people they serve and supports Scotland’s mental health.

As a SAMH Trustee, this voluntary position is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy and direction of the charity, contributing to the development of the work, promoting SAMH and mental health, contributing to effective governance and ensuring compliance with the legal obligations of Charities and Charity Trustees.

Since 2013, our Expeerience Counts Service has harnessed the lived experience of Peer Workers to deliver a recovery-focussed, sustainable community-based service to support people’s mental health and wellbeing using structured self-management tools. These include offering both 1:1 sessions and group work. Peer Workers use both MyRAP and Living Life to the Full as structured interventions to deliver on SAMH Core Values which offer service users choice, control and hope for their future.

In addition, locality-based Community Link Workers connect individuals with community resources to increase access to specialist support and promote self-management and social inclusion.

Our Expeerience Counts Service works in partnership with Well Informed, which is our North Lanarkshire information service, promoting mental health/wellbeing resources via ‘shop front’ accessible walk in facility, information stalls, signposting via phone calls and online/social media.

Well Informed has also operated since 2013 and provides opportunities for those with lived experience to train as volunteers and follow employability pathways supported by the wider Expeerience Counts service.

Key principles of our delivery of the peer support and information services include:

- Taking a strengths based approach to empower/enable individuals to build resilience, celebrate the small and big steps, and work towards self-management

Based on a harm reduction model, the service strives to support people to achieve their identified outcomes and live as independently as they can. Both services work very closely with the Glasgow ARBD team and practice a harm reduction model of working.

About the Role

The Physical Activity Partnership & Development Co-ordinator will play a key role in the delivery and development of SAMH’s partnership with Scottish Sports Futures in the delivery of the Wellbeing Programme. The role is within the ARBD Addiction services based in Castlemilk and has two sites. One is out-reach across the Southside of Glasgow, the other a care home setting. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to make a difference to people who have a diagnosed ARBD (alcohol related brain damage) condition. Based on a harm reduction model, the service strives to support people to achieve their identified outcomes and live as independently as they can. Working across Scotland, New Routes is delivered as a Public Social Partnership (PSP), funded by the Scottish Government and led by the Wise Group. SAMH works in partnership with the Wise Group to support male offenders with their mental health while they reintegrate back into the community.

As a support worker, you will provide support to individuals referred through the Wise Group, working alongside the SAMH Assertive Outreach worker who will carry out assessments and the risk assessment on all referrals.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of mental health issues and the support mechanisms available to people who are returning to their communities after coming out of custodial custody in line with Scottish Government’s approach to reduce re-offending.

Sam’s peer community project was established in April 2019 based in Kirkcaldy. It now offers peer support in Kirkcaldy /Dunfermline /Leven areas as well in the Emergency Department of Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy

SAMH are recruiting to the posts of peer support practitioners. This is an exciting role for people with a lived experience of mental health issues and own recovery journey.

Peer support practitioners will offer a proactive approach, working with people in communities of diversity and will have a strong people focussed values base. Peer practitioners are role models of recovery and will have responsibility for working in a professional manner that values this asset. This is no 9-5 role and therefore we are looking to employ people who are able to work between the hours of Noon -11pm. SAMS is open 7 days so staff must also be willing to work weekends on a rotational basis.

Peer Support Practitioners will use their own lived experience of mental health issues to support service users in a recovery focussed way. Using formalised peer support models the Peer Support Practitioner will enhance the support provided to the individual.

There is an expectation that peer support practitioners will facilitate initial crisis intervention, on going resiliency , 1:1 sessions as well as group work. Offering support that is tailored to individuals expressed needs. There is an expectation the peer support team will have a flexible , dynamic approach that ensures all attendees receive a consistent high quality of support.

Peer support practitioners will be role modelling recovery within SAMH values and guidelines. The role will include working professionally with statutory & voluntary partners including 1st responders & out of hours mental health team as well as fostering /maintaining good working relationship with the community.

DBI Practitioner - Inverclyde

Scottish Government has announced an extension to the programme of Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) across Scotland. The extended programme will be available to support people whose mental health has been impacted as a result of the pandemic. SAMH are looking to recruit DBI practitioners to provide a Level 2 DBI service to Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

A Distress Brief Intervention is a time limited and supportive, problem solving contact with an individual in distress and is a two-level approach. DBI level 1 is provided by staff in the mental health hub in NHS 24 and involves a compassionate response, signposting and offer of referral to a DBI level 2 service.

DBI level 2 is provided by trained SAMH staff who receive referrals via Primary Care services. The DBI Practitioner will contact the person within 24-hours of referral and provide compassionate, problem solving support, wellness and distress management planning, supported connections and signposting for a period of up to 14 days. The DBI Practitioner role is an exciting and challenging post which makes a real difference to people’s lives. You will use your great communication skills and mature attitude to support people to achieve their identified outcomes. Previous experience and knowledge of supporting people with their mental health would be desirable.

We are looking to recruit 1 very highly motivated individuals to join our small friendly DBI team. DBI practitioners provide support, advice and personal support planning for people referred from front-line services, carrying out a 14 day intervention to people in distress. The role of the DBI Practitioners is to review the reasons for the individuals distress, and support the person to develop immediate coping strategies and link them into a range of appropriate community services and facilities.. The DBI Practitioner will also support the person in distress to develop their Distress Brief Intervention Management Plan and link individuals into a range of appropriate community services and facilities as appropriate

• You will have the skills provide compassionate connected direction and guidance to people referred to the DBI from GPs, Community Mental Health Teams, Police Scotland and Mental Health Assessment Units.

• Support the Team Leader to co-ordinate, evaluate and review this support while providing accurate data information and completed distress management plans.

• Have the ability to communicate constructively and confidently with multiple partner agencies such as Police Scotland, NHS 24, GPS, CMHT, Ambulance Service

• You will have the skills and knowledge to ensure safe and effective provision of support to those people who use the DBI service through the promotion of outcomes focused person centred approaches

The role of the DBI Practitioners is to review the reasons for the individuals distress, and support the person to develop immediate coping strategies and link them into a range of appropriate community services and facilities.. The Wellbeing Worker will use a listen and link approach to connect and work with the young person to identify and manage the issues and barriers that affect their mental health and wellbeing. Through goal setting and action planning they will help them to understand what services are available within their local area and help them to confidently navigate and access these.

In addition to this listen and link support, the Wellbeing Worker will deliver individual support and group work using the following SAMH programmes:

Time for Me is an 8 session life skills course based on CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) for young people aged 16 – 18 years who are experiencing low mood, anxiety and anger. The programme is delivered individually, both face to face and online.

5 Ways to Better Wellbeing groups bring together young people aged 16+ to consider how they can look after their mental health and wellbeing using each of the 5 ways.

The Wellbeing Worker will work alongside the SAMH Children and Young People Trainer who will also support this partnership programme through the delivery of mental health workshops to young people and Project Scotland staff.

We are looking for an experienced individual with extensive experience of working with young people around their mental health and wellbeing. With exceptional communication skills and ability to manage own case load, you’ll need to be flexible to respond to the needs of young people accessing Project Scotland, ensuring your practice is of the highest quality at all times.

As our Well Informed Information Officer you will be energetic, enthusiastic and creative in everything you do. With a sound mental health knowledge base, you will be required to compile accurate and relevant information to support staff and service users. We utilise systems that allow easy access to this information, by phone, by website and face to face. You will be proactive in ensuring people have the right information to help them make the right choices. Creativity in how you develop effective and timely ways of doing this is a key aspect of the post. A good understanding of the issues faced by people with mental health problems is required.

For Scotland’s Mental Health

DBI is a two tiered response; a Level 1 response from frontline partnership agencies (A&E, Primary Care, Police Scotland & Scottish Ambulance Service) and a Level 2 supportive interventions delivered by SAMH. DBI level 2 will be provided by trained staff within SAMH who would contact the person within 24-hours of referral and provide compassionate community problem solving support, wellness and distress management planning, supported connections and signposting for a period of up to 14 days to individuals aged 16 and over.

This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to make a difference to peoples’ lives and support them to achieve their identified outcomes. In this exciting role you will support local people to connect with their community and overcome life’s challenges. Link Practitioners are based in GP practices across Aberdeen City. We work with local communities and colleagues both within and beyond the practice to support people to live better and have healthier lives.

Aberdeen Links aims to reduce pressures on mainstream primary and community care services by meeting a need for joined up support across the Health and Social Care Partnership.

As a Link Practitioner embedded in the community, local GP practices and the Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership locality you will :

  • support people with issues they are experiencing, to identify and manage issues and barriers that affect their ability to live well and help them to talk about what really matters to them,
  • offer non-clinical support to people, enabling them to set their own personal goals, and with your knowledge of what is happening in the local area, and ability to establish and maintain effective relationships help people access all their local community has to offer.
  • improve people’s health, wellbeing and personal resilience by supporting them to link more closely with opportunities in their community.

We are looking for talented and highly experienced people who are passionate about a person centred approach to supporting people to make meaningful and lasting improvements to their health and wellbeing.

You will be experienced in working with adults with a wide range of additional support needs, with exceptional communication skills and be able to effectively manage your own case load. Although this is not a mental health specific service, you will understand the varying needs of people with mental health problems and be experienced in providing support that empowers people to progress in their recovery journey, at times of poor mental health, at times of crisis and distress. You’ll also need to be flexible in responding to the demands of the service and ensure at all times that your practice and work is of the highest quality.

This role is predominantly based on regular office hours when working from GP practices, however the Aberdeen Links Service is also available at Police Scotland’s Custody Suite at Kittybrewster and as such, occasional evening, night and weekend working will be required on a rota basis. Successful candidates must be able to work a Friday morning for team meetings and training.

As project officer you will influence and facilitate change to support and grow the social movement to end mental health stigma and discrimination. This will involve creating partnerships, involving people with lived experience of mental health problems and coordinating a range of different projects and activities. The role involves working with a range of organisations and partners who support change and improvement for priority populations, equality groups and people experiencing multiple stigma. Empowering people and communities to take action is a central aspect of the role.

Peer Support Practitioner (Fife - SAMS)

As part of the Scottish Government Mental Health Strategy Action 15 and in partnership with Fife Health and Social Care Partnership SAMH have the opportunity to deliver a peer support project. The work within the community project is peer led and has an assets based approach to supporting people who are presenting as identifying as being in crisis.

First responders can also refer individuals to the project Sam’s peer community project was established in April 2019 based in Kirkcaldy. It offers peer support in Kirkcaldy /Dunfermline /Leven areas/Emergency department of Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. SAMH are recruiting to the posts of bank relief peer support practitioners. This is an exciting role for people with a lived experience of mental health issues and own recovery journey. Bank Relief peer support practitioners will offer a proactive approach, working with people in communities of diversity and will have a strong people focussed values base. Peer practitioners are role models of recovery and will have responsibility for working in a professional manner that values this asset. This is no 9-5 role and therefore we are looking to employ people who are able to work between the hours of Noon -11pm. SAMS is open 7 days so staff must also be willing to work weekends on a rotational basis.

Peer Support Practitioners will use their own lived experience of mental health issues to support service users in a recovery focussed way. Using formalised peer support models the Practitioner will enhance the support provided to the individual.

There is an expectation that peer support practitioner will facilitate initial crisis intervention, on going resiliency , 1:1 sessions. Offering support that is tailored to individuals expressed needs. There is an expectation the peer support team will have a flexible , dynamic approach that ensures all attendees receive a consistent high quality of support.

Peer support practitioner will be role modelling recovery within SAMH values and guidelines. The role will include working professionally with statutory & voluntary partners including 1st responders & out of hours mental health team as well as fostering /maintaining good working relationship with community partners.

For Scotland’s Mental Health

Scottish Government has announced an extension to the programme of Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) across Scotland. The extended programme will be available to support people whose mental health has been impacted as a result of the pandemic. SAMH are looking to recruit DBI practitioners to provide a Level 2 DBI service to Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

A Distress Brief Intervention is a time limited and supportive, problem solving contact with an individual in distress and is a two-level approach. DBI level 1 is provided by staff in the mental health hub in NHS 24 and involves a compassionate response, signposting and offer of referral to a DBI level 2 service.

DBI level 2 is provided by trained SAMH staff who receive referrals via NHS 24. The DBI Practitioner will contact the person within 24-hours of referral and provide compassionate, problem solving support, wellness and distress management planning, supported connections and signposting for a period of up to 14 days. The DBI Practitioner role is an exciting and challenging post which makes a real difference to peoples lives. You will use your great communication skills and mature attitude to support people to achieve their identified outcomes. Previous experience and knowledge of supporting people with their mental health would be desirable.

We are looking to recruit 1 very highly motivated individuals to join our small friendly DBI team. DBI practitioners provide support, advice and personal support planning for people referred from front-line services, carrying out a 14 day intervention to people in distress. The role of the DBI Practitioners is to review the reasons for the individuals distress, and support the person to develop immediate coping strategies and link them into a range of appropriate community services and facilities.. The DBI Practitioner will also support the person in distress to develop their Distress Brief Intervention Management Plan and link individuals into a range of appropriate community services and facilities as appropriate

  • You will have the skills provide compassionate connected direction and guidance to people referred to the DBI from NHS 24, Police, and Ambulance
  • Support the Team Leader to co-ordinate, evaluate and review this support while providing accurate data information and completed distress management plans .
  • Have the ability to communicate constructively and confidently with multiple partner agencies such as Police Scotland, NHS 24, GPS, CMHT, Ambulance Service
  • You will have the skills and knowledge to ensure safe and effective provision of support to those people who use the DBI service through the promotion of outcomes focused person centred approaches

Training in Level 2 Distress Brief Intervention, specific to the post, will be provided.

For Scotland’s Mental Health

Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) is a two tiered response approach incorporating Level 1 responses from frontline partnership agencies (A&E, Primary Care, Police Scotland & Scottish Ambulance Service) and Level 2 supportive interventions which are delivered by SAMH. Within 24 hours of receiving a referral SAMH’s trained staff will respond will provide compassionate community problem solving support, wellness and distress management planning, supported connections and signposting for a period of up to 14 days to people aged 16 and over who are in distress.

The DBI Practitioner is an exciting and challenging post which makes a real difference to peoples lives. You will use your great communication skills and mature attitude to support people to achieve their identified outcomes. Previous experience and knowledge of supporting people with their mental health would be desirable.

Our core hours are between 10am-6pm but there may be times when you will need to be flexible and work shifts, evenings and weekends. At the moment we operate a blended support model which includes face to face and remote working from home, and you will need access to your own transport as travel across the Scottish Borders is required.
