We won the 2021 Ashden Award for Greener Communities, and three of our volunteers also won prestigious prizes at the Inspiring Volunteer Awards 2021. At the five-year strategic review in February 2024, the staff acknowledged some of the organisation’s many strengths, such as being cooperative, close-knit, flexible, and dedicated to its employees. Therefore, our future fundraiser will join a supportive and high-performing team.

Purpose of the role

The purpose of the post is to work closely with the Director to create and implement comprehensive fundraising plans aligned with the Welcoming Association’s strategic goals.

This is an ideal role for someone who has demonstrated experience in fundraising and is looking to further develop their knowledge and experience in an exciting and far-sighted organisation. The role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to learn and develop the skills needed to forge a successful career in the third sector.

Purpose of the role

The purpose of this post is to deliver the ‘Enhance New Scots’ project, on a job share basis, from May 2023 to March 2024. The project aims to support The Welcoming’s New Scot service users to access work, volunteering and training opportunities which match their skills, qualifications and interests. The post holder will work in collaboration with the existing Employment and Training Advisor to provide individual coaching and guidance for The Welcoming’s members. They will also assist with the planning, delivery and evaluation of group workshops which prepare service users for employment.

This postholder will work in partnership with Project Scotland to deliver the ‘Inspire’ project from April 2023 to May 2024. The project aims to help Young New Scots (18-35 years old) by providing self-management and social intelligence classes, volunteering opportunities and mentoring.

The Energy Advice Coordinator will hold overall responsibility for The Welcoming’s Home Energy programme, funded through the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme. The two-year project aims to tackle and prevent fuel poverty and associated risks by providing free and impartial home energy advice and support to New Scots households in Edinburgh.

The project aims to help Young New Scots (18-30 years old) by providing self-management and social intelligence classes, volunteering opportunities and mentoring. The project will support 100 individuals over 18 months.

The purpose of this post is to deliver the ‘Enhance New Scots’ project from April 2022 to September 2024. The project aims to help the Welcoming Association’s New Scot service users find employment or start businesses that match their skills and talents. The project also helps New Scots service users to build social networks and participate in their local communities. It will achieve this through a focussed programme of activities including workshops, coaching, language support, facilitated networking and relationship building.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking several new Board Members to help take forward its strategy for a more welcoming, diverse and inclusive City of Edinburgh. People with lived experience as asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants are particularly encouraged to apply. We are also seeking individuals with private sector, social enterprise, and/or research backgrounds to complement the current capacities and experiences on the Board, and would particularly welcome applications from people with experience and skills in media, communications and fundraising.

The Board meets quarterly for two hours, and additionally holds a stand-alone strategy meeting once a year to reflect on our work and set strategy and plans for the coming year.

Are you an experienced and approachable group facilitator?

Would you like to make a meaningful contribution to improving the wellbeing of newcomers arriving in Edinburgh?

This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the work of The Welcoming Association and provide support for New Scots (asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants) who are making Edinburgh their home. The Friendship Group Facilitator will work within the ‘Welcoming Friendship’ programme, funded by Henry Smith and National Lottery Community Fund Scotland.

As a group facilitator, you will plan and deliver online and face-to-face group sessions that enable newcomers to make connections and develop friendships with local people, assisting with their integration to their new communities.

The Welcoming Friendship programme aims to help newcomers to Edinburgh make connections, develop friendships with local people, and assist with integrating into their new community.

The Befriending Manager will hold overall responsibility for the ‘Welcoming Friendship’ programme.

The programme is currently in its third year, and it is funded until August 2022.
