The Welcoming Association exists to welcome, orientate and assist migrant and refugee communities in Edinburgh. We currently provide English language classes, employability workshops and social and cultural integration opportunities on a free of charge, immediate start basis to over 1000 migrants and refugees from 60 different countries each year.

At the five-year strategic review in February 2024, the staff acknowledged some of the organisation’s many strengths, such as being cooperative, close-knit, flexible, and dedicated to its employees. Therefore, our future fundraiser will join a supportive and high-performing team.

Purpose of the role

The purpose of the post is to work closely with the Director to create and implement comprehensive fundraising plans aligned with the Welcoming Association’s strategic goals.

This is an ideal role for someone who has demonstrated experience in fundraising and is looking to further develop their knowledge and experience in an exciting and far-sighted organisation. The role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to learn and develop the skills needed to forge a successful career in the third sector.

The Energy Advice Coordinator will hold overall responsibility for The Welcoming’s Home Energy programme, funded through the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme. The two-year project aims to tackle and prevent fuel poverty and associated risks by providing free and impartial home energy advice and support to New Scots households in Edinburgh.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking several new Board Members to help take forward its strategy for a more welcoming, diverse and inclusive City of Edinburgh. People with lived experience as asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants are particularly encouraged to apply. We are also seeking individuals with private sector, social enterprise, and/or research backgrounds to complement the current capacities and experiences on the Board, and would particularly welcome applications from people with experience and skills in media, communications and fundraising.

What are we offering?

You will have the opportunity to join a reputable organisation with a highly dedicated, committed and passionate set of people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. If this is your first time becoming a Trustee, we have the system to bring you up to speed. For experienced Trustees, you have the opportunity to make Scotland a better country and improve the lives of New Scots in Edinburgh by contributing your innovative ideas for change and the growth of the organisation.

The Board meets quarterly for two hours, and additionally holds a stand-alone strategy meeting once a year to reflect on our work and set strategy and plans for the coming year.

Befriending Programme Manager

The post holder will be responsible for managing the Welcoming Friendship befriending programme, which Henry Smith Improving Lives fund and Community Fund Scotland Improving Lives grants up until August 2022.

The Welcoming Friendship programme aims to help newcomers to Edinburgh make connections, develop friendships with local people, and assist with integrating into their new community.

The Befriending Manager will hold overall responsibility for the ‘Welcoming Friendship’ programme.

The programme is currently in its third year, and it is funded until August 2022. However, as the Befriending Programme is one of our primary services, there is a high possibility of continuing beyond August 2022.
