Integral to our aspiration is the role of a Business Manager. This key position will report to and work closely with our CEO, to take responsibilities over finance, contracts, risk management, and HR processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Overseeing all aspects of finance including producing management accounts, supporting CEO with budgets and tracking spend against budgets and grants, preparation of accounts for audit process, financial processing, payroll and bank payments.
• Maintaining HR records using an online system, working with HR advisors to produce HR documentation i.e. contracts and support staff recruitment and induction process.
• Supporting good governance and risk management of the organisation through working with board and CEO to maintain/update policies, comply with data storage requirements and manage relevant records/files.
• Support with the acquisition and manage of contracts with suppliers, and oversee membership of associated bodies.
• Support CEO and board with secretarial support as required.
• Working with CEO to have general oversight over YMCA premises.

About You

• Significantly high levels of self-motivation and a positive attitude.
• Experienced in both day to day accounting and financial oversight over an organisations finances. With a recognised accounting qualification or significant experience in similar role.
• Ability to work independently, manage diary and organisation affairs to support the effective running of an organisation.
• Ability to communicate clearly and articulately in a variety of forms, oral, written, electronic with a broad range of groups.
• Experience in the use of ICT for communication.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive working relationships.
• Commitment to working with integrity, honesty and empathy, with an understanding and acceptance of other.
• Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to prioritise and cope with the demands.

This is an opportunity to join a small, dynamic, ambitious and welcoming team that believes in the transformative power of youth work and the power of partnerships. Operations Officers support the operational delivery and development of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) through managing a portfolio of Licensed Organisations (LOs).

LOs range from local authorities, state and independent schools to youth organisations, secure units and community groups. The DofE Scotland Operations team works with these licensed organisations to build their capacity, support their reach into more marginalised communities and ensure quality and compliance with the Award framework.

The DofE Scotland office covers DofE activity across the length and breadth of Scotland, working with over 150 Licensed Organisations and over 20,000 young people in the last year alone. Each Operations Officer manages a portfolio based on broad geographic region.

The role will be field-based and when not attending meetings, employees will work from home. You will need to have an appropriate home office set up and live within the region.

The Projects and Participation Assistant is an important point of contact for children and young people engaged with our office. The role cuts across all our rights-based work and includes assisting colleagues in a wide range of tasks to support the delivery of the Commissioner’s statutory functions.

As a cross-cutting support role, it is pivotal to the coordination and planning of the office’s ambitious aims.

This is a high-profile policy role within the children’s human rights sector in Scotland. You will be a fierce champion to promote and protect children’s human rights. As part of the Strategy Team you will work proactively to identify and address human rights issues and use your skills, knowledge, networks and expertise to influence law, policy and practice.

You will put children and young people at the heart of our work, in order to inform and shape the agenda in Scotland. You will develop positions based on sound human rights principles and communicate them using a wide range of tools including reports, briefings, consultation responses, parliamentary evidence, by producing speeches, and contributing content for online and social media content and external media statements.

Supporting the Head of Strategy, you will be responsible for providing policy advice on human rights issues relating to children and young people in Scotland and working with colleagues in Commissioner’s offices across the UK, Europe and internationally.
