The Scottish Ornithologists’ Club (“SOC”), one of Scotland’s leading wildlife bodies and a registered charity, is excited to be seeking to fill a vacancy that has arisen for an Admin Officer, working from the Club’s attractive headquarters on the East Lothian coast.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is highly organised and thrives on a varied work schedule. The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting the Club Manager in the running of the Club. They will become the key initial point of contact for members and others and fundamental to the smooth running of member services.
We are looking for a strong team player to work as part of the SOC’s small, dedicated team of staff. As well as excellent verbal and written communication skills, we are seeking an individual with experience of working with membership databases and who is confident with IT. Events-related administration skills and an interest in ornithology in Scotland are desirable.
We have four Funding Officer opportunities: three permanent and one Fixed Term Contract till October 2025.
You’ll be part of a team of Funding Officers, led by a Funding Manager, responsible for our grant-making activity in a geographical area. There are eight Funding teams in Scotland each covering a different geographical region with between 4 and 8 Funding Officers in each team.
Funding Officers usually work on grant-making activity within one local authority area and are the main point of contact for all grant-holders and applicants in that area.
Role Responsibilities include:
During your first few weeks with the Fund, in person training will be delivered in Glasgow, you can expect to be office based on most working days. After the initial training period work patterns are more flexible. In a typical week most full-time Funding Officers would be likely to spend one day in our Glasgow office, one or two days out for meetings and project visits in their assigned area, and will work from home on other days.
There can be occasional weekend and evening working, but most of our work takes place on week days in normal working hours.

The Job
The purpose of the job is to support people to achieve their goals and aspirations through group work by providing opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills. This role offers an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to use their experience and skills to encourage and facilitate God’s mission across this area, with a focus on youth and young adults.
A theological background will be important; in particular, we intend to work within the Five Marks of Mission and a clear vision of these and of relational approaches to youth and intergenerational work will be required. Flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to share and experiment will all be vital. It is expected that the postholder will travel extensively throughout the Presbytery.
The successful candidate will have knowledge and understanding of youth ministry in an intergenerational context with the ability to translate this into good practice. They will also have an ability to work with Christians and churches from across the theological spectrum as well as with people who have little or no church connection.
The successful candidate will be a committed Christian with an active Church connection (Genuine Occupational Requirement in terms of the Equality Act 2010).
